That said...I'm gonna start with the packaging. Stellar job! Loved the artwork and double disc layout. What did you use for software?

If I have one teensy criticism...maybe bigger type font next time? Had to squint pretty hard to make these out.

Someday I want a tour of your record collection.

This kind of effort is so valuable! I would never make the effort to mine a genre that never really appealed to me for gems like these, but with the help of a native guide I can avoid the quicksand and go straight to the treasure and get my Indiana Jones on. So many artists I'd never heard of! I owe you a beer, or whatever you're having.

Being late is no problem. I was severely late in putting this out. You see... I was making fun of some of you's for being tardy. And it never fails... when I point out flaws in others ... it comes back on me triple fold. You'd think I'd learn by now.

The product I use for editing/ fixing photos/ adding text is Apple's Pixelmater.  It's so simple even I can use it. AND it's cheap enough. My daughter, whose middle name is Apple, helps point me in directions... when even I can't figure things out. My same daughter set me up with a program in "Apple Pages" to do CD printing. And I still have my trusty old Epson Artisan 835 that, so far, keeps chugging along.
That being said... doing two disc is lot of work. I should have separated them. That gluing can get tricky. I hope they all held up at least for the first play. Yeah, the font was too small on the song list. I was kinda rushed there at the end to get this unit out. It was a big (small) compromise there.
Getting older is heck. I finally got some cheap magnifying readers. They really help for the finer things in life.

I'm so glad you liked this mix. I'm always worried my taste in music is somewhat "mainstream" compared to the eclectic stuff normally put out here in this club.
I'm surprised you missed some of this music/ bands before.
Thanks for the kind words. And the review!
I have a total so far of 272 songs in my Power Pop folder left to ponder over. Maybe I'll revisit this pile again in the future.
Dr. Pepper is my "strong" drink.
We need to have another "meet up" again.
This is fun!

The standout tunes:

Disc 1
1. The first record I bought with my own money was The Who's Tommy, so yeah I'm on board.
2. And I don't even like Rundgren! Head bobbin'.
4. We're on the same wavelength here. Always loved this tune, and regret never exploring their catalog past it.
5. The Flamin' Groovies belong on the AM radio in my parent's Rambler.
9. Righteous.
13. Is this a Split Enz tune? No? Not at all familiar with this band or their work. Thanks for the intro!
14. New Wavy (in a non-synthetic and doesn't-need-a-video way) and catchy. Clearly your definition of power pop is broader than mine.
15. Sounds brittle and jittery and I like it. And it's utterly new to me. Hey, I was too broke thru most of the '80s to keep up.
17. If you told me the singer was Roger Daltrey I'd totally believe it.
19. Another undiscovered gem from the '80s for me. Reminds me of about 12 other bands, all of which I like.
20. I think this is the first female voice I've heard on this disc. Maybe that's why it stands out.
21. Yet another band I never followed up on after hearing their hit on the radio. Really digging the clever lyrics.

Disc 2
3. More ladies. Who is this, and why have I never heard them before? Most groovy.
5. Oh that jangly guitar riff!
7. More than the sum of its parts.
8&9. Sooo catchy! Infectious grooves.
10. More clever songwriting and well-crafted riffs. Not at all what I expected from the genre.
12. Punctual  and crunchy even with the milk poured! My favorite so far. I want to track them down and hear more. Apparently they're now a four-piece, but they sound great as a trio.
13 & 14. This is more like what I expected when I started this adventure.
15. That's Roger McGuinn-level jangle.
19. Yeah baby!
21. Way to end with a bang!

Someday I want a tour of your record collection.

This kind of effort is so valuable! I would never make the effort to mine a genre that never really appealed to me for gems like these, but with the help of a native guide I can avoid the quicksand and go straight to the treasure and get my Indiana Jones on. Sorry I took so long to give this review. Work has been crazy! I’m working on my truck at the same time! Too much craziness!!!
Wow! What an eclectic mix! There’s some of the world’s oldest music on these discs. And even some Country Pop!
My favorites...

Around the Edges-
“Ice Miner”. Leo Kottke. Love, love his guitarability.
“All My Little Words”. Not for all North Carolina. The Magnetic Fields. I love their quirky
lyrics. I own quite a bit of their catalogue.
“Bob Dylan Blues” Never heard this before. Thanks for the mind-expanding song.
“Smog Moon”. Matthew Sweet is sweet!
“Love in Vain”. A Stones deep cut... that’s where I like them. Even though it leans a little blue to
me. Maybe it’s the country vibe that helps.
“One Trick Ponies” How can a Kurt go wrong?
“The Grunt” The sound I make before a nice BM. Sorry. Funk makes me funky.

II-
“Face Crinkle”. I like this. It has a good beat. And it doesn’t make me blue.
“Strangers”. Always liked the Kinks. One of my favorite bands.
“Tom’s Start” by Elliot Smith. I like this one because... I like Elliot Smith. Pops and clicks even.
“Thumbtack”. Bob Mould is up high on my list of favorite artists.
“Baby’s on Fire”. This song takes me way back to my KROQ- FM listening days. I still have this
  on a LP.

Outtakes and Blunders
“The Bread and the Bait” They sure sound like girlpool. I like!
“The Sharp Hint of New Tears” Another toe tapper. Even though the lyrics are a downer.
“Shake Baby Shake” My wife’s kind of music. She’s a month older than me... she likes them
oldies/ retro sound. I’m putting this on her mix list.
“Breaking Like the Sun” Bluegrass! This CD sure is ECLECTIC!
“Crowing” Love the Toads!
“Perfect Day” I like Chris. But this song is just so slow. Give me “Big Sky Country”!
“Heartbreak Blues” Even though it has “Blues” in the title... I like this. It’s the Y’Alternative
  flavor that gets me.
“Fragile Bird” These guys sound like Queens of the Stone Age. Not bad.
“King of Spain” We need more Galaxie 500.
“Starcrossed Misbegotten Love” Good stuff!
“White Horse Blues” Mostly Modern Banjo!
“Of Course”. Peripheral... indeed!

Thanks for all your work Sir Droseph! I really liked most of these disc. The blues still make me blue. But you chewed them up enough to make them go down easy.

But on to the tuneage review! Around the Edges
Funny the Whiskey song is by Anonymous, it sounded like a 3 step program
The opening of the Willie Nelson tune sounded very similar to Tommy
As I listened to the Magnetic Fields tune all I could picture was Belushi smashing the guitar on the staircase in Animal House
Alabama Song, never heard the original. Didn't ever realize the Doors tune was a cover
Larry Jon Wilson plays some good harp, or his harp player does
I've loved Matthew Sweet ever since my old college friend Jim made a tape of Girlfriend for me.
I'd like to hand around a camp fire with Ken Nordine, he tells a good story
Thank you for including my ALL TIME favorite Aerosmith tune. Takes me back to a friends garage band when I was a teen.  II
Face Crinkle was a good opening song
Sweet Papa Stovepipe - thought it was Zeppelin LOL
PJ Harvey with some good Americana type stuff
Tell me Tom Waitts wasn't influenced by Blind Willie
Really dug the stripped down Elliot Smith
Angelo DeBarre - thought is was Zeppelin also LOL
"I found the best of all possible girls,  She's as pure and white and bright as tomorrow" - Roland is talking to me
I liked this Blue Jean Blues version better than the original
Cool guitar interludes on the the Eno Bloopers
Foxtails, sound alot like the Ditty Bops
Do you think all the girls in India swoon and scream for Sakarin like they did for Elvis?
Shake Baby Shake - had to look up the meaning of Wickle, means to nudge someones arm. Now you know too.
Very interesting cover of Perfect Day. I like when an artist turns another song into their own.
Fragile Bird was one I liked alot. Never heard of City and Colour
I like the singer for Nickel Creek, has a voice like Allison Krausse
White Horse Blues - Finger Picking Good! As usual, you supply a wide variety of genres and an eclectic assortment of selections. Good mix of familiar and "where does he find these guys". And 3 discs worth!

As always thanks for taking the time to post a thorough review, you are a gentleman, scholar and a 5 oclock riser.{#Cheers}

Funny the Whiskey song is by Anonymous, it sounded like a 3 step program -  This older gentleman was actually a neighbor and friend of Townes Van Zandt, reckon he didn't want his name on the recording which was taken during a wonderful 1976 I believe documentary on the early outlaw country movement called Heartworn Highways.  Highly recommend it.

Funny you should mention Zeppelin a couple of times when I started getting into the blues again I had an epiphany that Zeppelin who I have always liked, but since they were so ubiquitous never really delved into them, is the best not only rock, but the best band period of all time!  They have 3 virtuosos of their positions in JPJ, Page and Plant.  And as far as Bonham goes, it is not Clapton, but Bonham who is the one and only true God of rock and roll.  Their first album is the one to present to an alien that wants to know what rock and roll is.

I didn't even know that crazy chick was saying Wickle, I thought she was saying wiggle and what is up with those horrible lyrics??  They are so bad, it is good. lol

The guitar interlude in the Eno track is none other than the criminally underrated guitarist Robert Fripp.  Never got into King Crimson, but he kicks ass on the axe!

Glad you enjoyed!

Ok since you don't have song list going to go ahead and post.  And again sorry about that, but my therapist has advised to avoid printers as much as possible.  No one needs that kind of negativity in their life.

Around the edges.

Russ used to always sign off with that and I really like it.  An at home familiar feeling, but just a little off with more than a hint of looking inside the window as the rest of the world goes on about their business.
This is my homage to this idea, staying true to the spirit of the outsider who has not lost touch with the center and is hanging about the perimeter.  Oh I have heard this band before, but don't hear this one very often. I know this song, but haven't heard this version. Occupying the space just not quite right or right Around the Edges:
