Seems like CD's have the day. Keeping the RPMCC GREAT "again?"
I'm old school so CD's are my preferred method.

Whatever comes along with the CD. If I submit to CDDB (I always do), the disc you get should mount up and be recognized by your player. I didn't do a cover image this time so it won't have that, but once upon a time, I did add that so that in your player it had my image. When you mount this disk image, your computer should identify it as a CD and there you go. SHOULD.

Seems like a lot of trouble to go thru and more data to move—CD tracks are uncompressed. MP3s have metadata built in, no need to ping a server. But let's see what happens.

Most of my recent rips and downloads are not MP3, but Apple Lossless ALAC. Can everyone decode that?

Anyone can, once getting access to the files. Downloads will be stored 'forever' by your ISP, according to national laws.

In case you only meant file ID TAGS, there are no limits set with ALAC i.e. they're completely compatible with mp3 tagging.

Yes, very secure! Hahaha... mega.nz

Except that in most western countries, the copyright-mafia is going right after them, and their users (especially mega.nz).

Now you may reply, that you're using a 'secure' VPN. But what makes you think, that you can trust your VPN provider any one inch more than your local ISP, in case of legal prosecution of CPR infringement investigations (or any legally or morally worse matters, not hoped for)? History has shown more than once, that VPN providers have not stood by their claims of not keeping any logs, and instead readily provided them to the FBI and the like, when asked.

Most providers (ISP and VPN providers have to adhere to their national, and increasingly more often international legal standards, and readily apply to any such legal inquiries).

So, no reasons given to trust mega.nz... as 'safe'!

Especially not, when looking at Mr. Mega's personal history of flip-flapping when it comes to serving his own interests.

Just sayin'...

Hmm: Maybe bubble mailers can go as Flats:

The question is whether they count as "rigid." In a jewel case, they would, but just the disc would probably fly thru without a problem. I'll test one maybe. It has to be "somewhat flexible."

I've been burned by this. Some post offices accept a CD as non-rigid (even in a jewel case), some don't. I usually use an automated kiosk to send mine, and usually don't have an issue. If I use a teller they always charge the higher rate. I've even had some sent back from the delivery-side post office marked "insufficient postage"—a two week turnaround.

Right, but the 6x9 bubble mailers with a CD are thin enough to fit thru the slot, but the heat-sealed edges take them out to about 7"... if it's mailable as an envelope, you pay the first class stamp and another 25¢ or something for oversize and bob's yer uncle.

Correct. I just sent 5 CDs yesterday; the bubble mailers are  a hair too big to qualify as an envelope; they are just thin enough to fit thru the 1/4" slot. If I do this again, I will experiment with trimming the mailer down to under 6.125 inches; that should allow it to mail for under $1.

Media mail can't have any personalized stuff in it, just the documentation for the disc. So don't send me any love letters!

I will experiment with creating a disk image tonight and see if I can put it on google docs etc for people to download. From there, you should be able to launch an app that will rip it straight to a CD if you so desire, or mount it up as if it's a cd and import the songs that way. SHOULD.

That is in case the USPS should open it for inspection.  They almost never do that.  But to be safe when I ship LP's I include a "packing slip" that I print out using PayPal's form and put a little hand written thank you on the bottom part.

With Media Mail, the size of the package or envelope does not matter, just the contents and the weight.  One of the true last bargains left in the shipping world.
