I closed with this because I like the hypnotic flow it has. I'm not crazy about the vocals being so low in the mix—I even fired up Audacity to try and bring them forward, but that was going to take too long and really, that's how they wanted it so who am I to revise it?

If you're curious the lyrics are here, and pretty trippy.

Trippy indeed.

I use an MS Publisher template if anybody wants it. Very easy.

Quite a few numbers here that I've never heard before...  and some scared me.

Why, thank you! Expect surprises.

#3   Them blues are giving me the blues. I'm probably the only guy or girl on R. Paradise that gives all the blues tracks 3's. So this resides in the perfect spot.

Wouldn't have thought to apply the genre blues to Ollabelle. Hmm...

#8   Patty Griffin is even better! So, I'll overlook the sad and blues.

Wanted to use Moira Smiley's version (it's one of her go-to concert/workshop pieces) but it turns out I didn't actually have it in digital form. Besides, this is my favorite song from Patty's Downtown Church album.

She's Catholic As Hell but the songs are mostly Protestant hymns, because protestants write better hymns. At least since the Reformation. Or maybe JS Bach.

#10 Whoa. That was thought provoking. For a guy that likes upbeat, snappy tunes... I needed a swift kick to snap me out of that one.  I'd rather read Psalm 50. Even verse 22 is more upbeat...
"Now consider this, you who forget God, Or I will tear you in pieces, and there will be none to deliver."

Yeah, it's pretty slow and pretty long so I debated including it...but it's also just pretty. And it's my disc so neener neener.

#11 Rappy. See #3.

Heh. Buckle up! There would have been more rap on this but I ran out of space.

#15  A appella and interesting. I listened to this while driving to work one early morning last week. I keep slowing down and then exceeded the speed limit many times.

Great sing-along tune.

#18 See #11.  Did he say "Blueberry pie swim the ocean"?

First an apology for all the typos in my last post! At least I got the song list right on the album art.

The Moby track turned out to be my favorite, love the baritone vocals mixed in.

Thanks. trying to cut down on the packaging and simplify the process. Plus it's getting hard to find decent CD jewel cases.

One of two tracks featuring the Blind Boys of Alabama. Moby's contributions to this are pretty minimal—the Boys did the heavy lifting. Still like it 21 years after I first heard it.

I Was Raised in Bablylon had some good lyrics, song had a Richard Thompson vibe to it

Yusuf used to be Cat Stevens (good catch, Kurt!) and he still has some excellent songwriting chops. He's slowed down a step or two since his glory days but I recommend his recent work. He's still working with a lot of the same sidemen he started with and they still sound good together.

Tracks 4 & 5 was like the Gospel according to Lazy8

These songs speak to me, but not for me. Don't draw any conclusions about my beliefs from them.

Damn, that's some fine harmony from the Boys tho, ain't it?

Gungor (never heard of them, strange name too) produced a beautiful song, really dug the ladies in the background

New to me too. Found them by googling "religious music that doesn't suck". You'd be amazed how many blog posts there are on that topic!

50th Psalm had some cool chanting, thirsting for some Monk's Ale after that one

It's slow and hypnotic and not likely to be everybody's favorite, but the voices dug in for me. They're singing in Aramaic. This performance was for Pope Francis.

I have only heard the Illinoise album by Stevens, he is great little artist isn't he. Might have to explore him more after this one

Sufjan is well worth getting to know.  This track crushes me like a bug.

Don't know how old Emmylou was when she made this song, but she is just timeless

It's from the album Cowgirl's Prayer (released in 1993, so she was...um...carry the 7...46). It's a Jesse Winchester cover, and I like her version waaaaay better. Of course that's true in general—if there's a song she's covered chances are I like it better than the original.

Iron & Wine, I like everything I hear by them. I think you do too, not your first offering from them (him)

I confess I'm a fan, and this likely isn't the last I&W to appear on one of my mixes.

Sam Beam often writes songs with religious (usually Old Testament) themes. He's an agnostic tho. Go figure.

This one is basically Deist.

It's mostly Christian since that's the culture I'm embedded in so that's what I mostly hear. I tried to reach a little farther for this but this is ass far as I got before shipping time. I enjoyed the search tho, and if you've got any suggestions I'm open.

#13  Yes to Emmylou! Blues and sad even. See #8.
#14  Merry Christmas Babylon!
#15  A cappella and interesting. I listened to this while driving to work one early morning last week. I keep slowing down and then exceeded the speed limit many times.
#16 Nice. I'd give it a 6.
#17 Very, very nice Sam song. Very familiar song here on Paradise. You've got to have one of those. Don't you?
#18 See #11.  Did he say "Blueberry pie swim the ocean"?

Nice unique compilation!

These are exciting times for the old RP MCC, more new members since I've been a part of the club. With that comes the prospect of new musical ventures and other's tastes. The thing that makes this club work is community engagement. So as a reminder to all, new and old, that if someone is going to take the time to mix up some tunes, burn onto a CD, package it up and mail it direct to you for your listening pleasure it isn't much to ask that you put up a review/comment on what you thought about the members efforts.

a recap of our lineup for this round
June - Lazy 8 (currently in our collective hands)
July - Miamizsun
August - KurtfromLaQuinta
September - Buddy (I made an executive decision to put you in earlier)
October - ScottfromWyoming
November - ColdMiser

Have fun all and enjoy the best this group has to offer.

Exception being Led Zepplin, but it's freekin Zepplin who cares?

I finished up the Box Set yesterday. Some good comfort food for sure, and a definite departure from your standard fare of wild and eclectic ingredients. Some thoughts as I enjoyed.

Man The Cars were a great freaking band weren't they?
This Time will be the LAST time? I don't think so my friend
I like to Rock - totally devoid of politics here, nice and simple
A deep Stones track? Not many of those out there.
Classic Hits Radio pretty much turned me off from AC/DC so I have to say Ride On did the opposite
Not sure even the GREAT BILL G would attempt to jump from Angus Young into Yacht Rock, such Bravery
I'm inspired to break out my vinyl copy of Captain Fantastic and The Brown Dirt Cowboy for a long overdue spin
You now owe me a new set of speakers for the old Tacoma after the Boston Blasting. A long time favorite of mine
Another Rush sighting, last seen on RMGMan's ode to Frodo mix. Soundtrack of my youth.

Thanks for all 6 discs, hard to pick out a favorite. A great Pandemic companion. Nice Work as always

21. Hen Pecked.................................................Bobby Rush ft. Frayser Boy

Holy cow, where to start?

I guess this was my favorite, but the care and attention put into these is inspiring. This must have been a lot of work, and they played very, very well. This stack gaot me thru several dinner-cookings and left me with a good taste in my ears.

Well done sir! My hat's off to you!

I'd also like to welcome longtime RPsian buddy to the MCC, bringing us up to 7 members! Looking forward to the contributions from all.

Got em.  Already noticed one of my favorite songs that I have at least 10 different versions of, but not the one on the mix....until now.{#Wave}

Going to slot you in November right after Scott. Plenty of time to cook up some good listening.

Thanks!
