Nice debut mix! The guitar driven rock really hit home early and often. The first track had me perked up and I was sucked in by the 2nd track. Highlights...

Rival Sons - great opener, new to me too!
Heigh Chief - Is it pronounced Hey or High? Nice organ work to blend with the guitars
Veldman Brothers - Shades of the Allmans
Kenny Wayne Sheperd - One of the familiar tunes on here for me, should listen to this guy more
Better Than Ezra - Probably my favorite track on the mix.

Overall a lot of new material for me, which is always great. A different sound than what the other members typically bring so a refreshing addition to the group. Kudos!

Sorry for the late reply. Received what I assume is your disc immediately before traveling on vacation. Still need to listen and when done will report back, though those in the group know my reports are very brief in words.

Sing About It - Tonality Had a real R and B accapella feel to it. Great voice.

They are an a capella group, very large. Must be hard to tour with so many, so I've never heard them live. This came to my attention from Moira Smiley (see below) who composed the song and endorsed this version.

Erti Nakhvit - Trio Mandili Loves me some Gypsy music! Terrific!

Georgian, actually. I fell in love with their utterly charming youtube videos of them wandering thru the Georgian countryside and singing. They got a lot of attention for those and got a record deal; I ordered their cds and they shipped all the way from Mother Russia. To be honest they lost something going into the studio, but I still love this stuff.

Ting Ting - Shook Twins I have heard of the Shook Twins but never really listened to them, good stuff.

From Portland, OR. Lots of fun. Not their first appearance in one of my mixes.

O Cha Teid, Cha Teid Meise - Ben Miller & Anita McdonaldFavorite song so far, just beautiful!

Was introduced to them by an Iraqi bluesman. This is my favorite thing they've done.

The Falls of Richmond-STEAM At first I read this as the Fall of Richmond would have been a cooler title and the music does match, I can close my eyes and envision a Civil War encampment.

An ancient tune. The hasty research I've done points to a potential origin in the 1700s. It may refer to the actual Falls of Richmond (an underwhelming waterway from all accounts) or a Revolutionary War battle.

Colly's Army of Darkness - Great Bear Trio Nice funky turn after the more classical acoustic sounds

Their typical instrumental lineup was piano, fiddle, and electric guitar. They were huge fun to dance to. Andrew VanNorstrand has a gofundme going to fund his next solo album.

Gloria - Trials of Cato
Sounds like Richard Thompson, let's check.......Trials of Cato, huh never heard of em. There are certainly worse things to be compared to. Very nice.

This whole album is terrific. One of my favorite discoveries of last year.

Paths and Places - Natalie Rae Padilla
Love this one, great voice sounds like that chick from Barnaby Bright. Let's check.....Natalie Padilla, huh never heard of her. There are......oh wait. Good stuff.

Hmmm...Barnaby Bright...new one on me. Must explore.

She appeared on my last mix in her band Masontown so you've heard her before.

Dressed in Yellow - Moira Smiley
I have some roots mountain songs like this but more raw; this has a real authentic feel to it. Love that long one note in the background, classic.

That's a shruti box, a bellows-pumped drone instrument from India. I heard this sung solo in a house concert with Moira standing a few feet away. Crushed me like a bug. Conversations at the break indicated I wasn't the only one. Still gets me.

I tried to have a theme rich in meaning and redolent with symbolism, but that was too much work. Instead I just followed my path back thru the last few years and looked at the discs I'd picked up at live shows again. I didn't load you all up with rambling tales about each song, just picked out songs that seemed like they fit together.

And a funny thing happened: a theme, or at least a similarity between the songs sort of emerged. The songs were mostly by or about women, and had a common subtext about healing.

Or something. Anyway I liked where it went, even tho it turned out kind of chill. I actually listen to a lot of rockous music day to day, but I didn't make it to many shows like that. I guess being in the folk music industry has tamed my night life.

Tracks:

1. Tonality  Sing About It
2.  Trio Mandili Erti Makhvit
3.  Shook Twins Ting Ting
4.  Ahn Trio Skylife
5.  Chris Cunningham Emily
6.  Mia Bertelli & Jamie Oshima Thief
7.  Ben Miller & Anita MacDonald O Cha Teid, Cha Teid Meise
8.  STEAM  The Falls of Richmond
9.  Great Bear Trio Coily's Army of Darkness
10.  John Goodin St. Anthony and the Fishes
11.  Stringrays  Mattie and Karine's
12.  The Trials of Cato Gloria
13.  SHEL Follow Me Home
14.  Nancy Padilla Paths and Places
15.  Storeyhill Spring Snow
16.  West My Friend The Tattoo That Loved Her Anyway
17.  Moira Smiley Dressed In Yellow
18.  Amber Ikeman Rise

Whether I looked at song list before
listening or not made no difference because every single song was and
almost all of the artists were new to me. Well done!

Got it!  Great having fresh blood.  Looked at song list and it only highlights what makes this club so great.  Different people in different regions exposed and sharing different music than we may be used to.  Great to have another angle.  Will give it a listen this afternoon.

Shook Twins - Channeling the Roche Sisters

This is a little sweeter than usual for them. Highly recommended live—they put on a great show.
Ahn Trio - Like the piano and string mix on this one

We're pretty lucky in that Angela Ahn teaches at the local college, so I've gotten to hear them quite a few times.
Chris Cunningham

Another local, and half of Storeyhill.
STEAM - pretty good Appalachian sound

They were living mostly in New Mexico when I gathered this sample. Since then have moved north and east—Kansas, I think. Met them playing for a dance in Oregon.
The Great Bear Trio - Really dig this one

Another dance band. Alas Mama Bear Kim Yerton has retired leaving her boys Andrew and Noah VanNorstrand to carry on in a variety of bands and solo projects.
The Trials of Cato (wish I was in the room when they decided on that name)

Fascinating bunch. From the far north of England and Wales. Didn't actually get to meet them, intercepted a record company promo disc on its way to the local college radio station.
Storeyhill

Reunited, reinvigorated, and back on tour. They're throwing a huge party this summer for their fans and I can't go!
Just goes to show how easy it is to participate in this little club of ours. You start out with nothing and end up with something special to share with us. Kudos

Thanks, and my condolences on your commute!

One does one's best.
