Dubious diagnosis

A war on "prediabetes" has created millions of new patients and a tempting opportunity for pharma. But how real is the condition?

"Kahn invited half a dozen diabetes thought leaders to brainstorm at a National Institutes of Health cafeteria in Bethesda, Maryland. Surrounded by hungry federal employees, many enjoying the kinds of fatty foods and sugary drinks tied to the diabetes epidemic, they landed on a then–little-used term that seemed sure to scare patients and doctors into action: prediabetes."

The condition or risk is real.  There is nothing wrong with pre-testing; it is the response that matters.   If the response is drugs, then yes, there is a serious problem here.

In a similar fashion, if the only tools in the tool-kit for chronic back pain are drugs and surgery, then yes, there is a serious problem.

The underlying serious question is why are folks so averse to exercise?  Along the same line, why do folks insist on such awful diets when media, not just elite media, have been spelling out the dangers for decades now?

My metabolism is older than yours, hon. I think really pushing the protein hard may help - I have a BACON snack almost every morning and eat a lot of cottage cheese. I want to drop another five, that will put me at 170. I'm thinking that's right where I want to be.

Bet you're not entering the change, though, are ya?

I eat plenty of protein, too. And exercise almost every day. Something has changed in the past 6 months (as in, slowed down and nothing I used to do successfully works anymore), and that's the only correlation I can see.

I still limit, though. A bunch.

I am wondering if my new -found liking for running is because I have been doing it in Vibrams, or if its because I have developed such a liking for yoga as well and done so much of it in the past few years, or because the mi!itary, where I learned to hate running, is but a very distant memory??

I'm thinking its the Vibrams.... I might try barefoot soon...

Taking it up to another level, doing Qi Gong for neck and upper back. Highly recommend. Accupuncture is into 3rd week now, the demon in my back is on the run and the pain shows up in random different places every day, at least it no longer resides permanently on the right side of my neck. Sometimes in the middle of the night I can hear it bargaining between fits of rage.  I am stalwart in my quest for pain free fluidity, I shall be free........

I stumbled across that one on Tumblr - one blog posts a lot of early 20th Century print ads.  I couldn't verify a year or anything, but the wording is so strange in that one...
