The tenor of the prayer service was well encapsulated by Pastor Andrew Brunson, who became a right-wing celebrity after he was freed from detention in Turkey during the Trump administration. Brunson used his prayer to warn that the United States will soon face the judgment of God for having become âthe primary corrupter of the worldâ by supporting LGBTQ rights.
âThe Bible draws a picture of Babylon as the wealthiest, most powerful city-empire of its time; a nation that sets itself against God and uses its power and wealth to lead other peoples into immorality,â Brunson said. âThis is us. Brunson was followed by a panel featuring âex-gayâ activists who begged God to cleanse the nation of âthe sins of homosexuality, lesbianism, bisexuality, and sex confusion.â They were then followed by multiple members of Congress, including House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.
Rep. Diana Harshbarger was among the members of Congress who participated in the event, praying that God will âput godly people in places of authorityâ and âremove people that are ungodly from places of authority. Put them out to pasture.â
âWe are the remnant, the people who stand in the place at such a time as this, God, to do your will,â Harshbarger declared. âWeâre the only thing that stands between prosperity and destruction.â
While I donât doubt the republicans might superficially use race for political expediency, as do democrats (see this video)â¦this is not about race and religion. There are plenty of gay, lesbian and transgender people in the republican party and everyone gets along for the most part. Here's three regulars on FNC for openers ... Guy Benson, Tammy Bruce and Caitlin Jenner. There are many more. But as with the democratic dogma, they are not real gay, lesbian and transgender people because they are conservative repubs. Same as the dem party does not consider black people to be real black people if they do not vote democrat. Remember Biden's famous quote on you're not really black if you don't vote for me ... ?
What is objected to most is what is going on with the pressuring of minor children to go trans and keep it secret from their parents. And men taking over and trashing women's athletics.
