The page I found says it's based on sales, not polling, so I could see why a lot of people may
buy candy corn -
to give out to kids, but not to eat it themselves. Same with the gum in the other states. Keep the Reese's and the Mounds away from the door.
Lemonheads and Hot Tamales are interesting choices, Ferrara Candy isn't really as widely known and they don't advertise on TV like the other big players. Still, just about everyone knows at least one of their products - e.g.: Jujyfruit, Chuckles, Mike & Ike, Now & Later, etc...

According to this, Reese's cups are the most popular in Iowa

How could candy corn be the most popular candy in 6 different states?

We set a pretty strict time for the kids to be home, school night and all. All I can say is that being in Cross Country must have paid off for Charlie because his sister came home with a nice haul of candy; Charlie came home just a few minutes later with ... well he swapped out his trick-or-treat bag for a pillowcase at some point, and came back with it over his shoulder looking like Santa just leaving the North Pole.
