AP is today trying to blame Claudette Gay's resignation from Harvard on conservative activists wielding plagiarism charges as a weapon.  Laughable, on it's face. And they're getting crucified for it.

This, however, is an exceedingly great read on the entire affair.  HINT: It's not the plagiarism.

X.com: Bill Ackman on antisemitism at Harvard, DEI, Claudette Gay, racism, the Harvard board, cancel culture and more.

Read. It. All.   A few excerpts:
——
In light of today’s news, I thought I would try to take a step back and provide perspective on what this is really all about.

I first became concerned about @Harvard when 34 Harvard student organizations, early on the morning of October 8th before Israel had taken any military actions in Gaza, came out publicly in support of Hamas, a globally recognized terrorist organization, holding Israel ‘solely responsible’ for Hamas’ barbaric and heinous acts.

How could this be? I wondered.

—-

I came to learn that the root cause of antisemitism at Harvard was an ideology that had been promulgated on campus, an oppressor/oppressed framework, that provided the intellectual bulwark behind the protests, helping to generate anti-Israel and anti-Jewish hate speech and harassment.

Then I did more research. The more I learned, the more concerned I became, and the more ignorant I realized I had been about DEI, a powerful movement that has not only pervaded Harvard, but the educational system at large. I came to understand that Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion was not what I had naively thought these words meant.

I have always believed that diversity is an important feature of a successful organization, but by diversity I mean diversity in its broadest form: diversity of viewpoints, politics, ethnicity, race, age, religion, experience, socioeconomic background, sexual identity, gender, one’s upbringing, and more.

What I learned, however, was that DEI was not about diversity in its purest form, but rather DEI was a political advocacy movement on behalf of certain groups that are deemed oppressed under DEI’s own methodology.

—-

Martin Luther King’s most famous words are instructive:

“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”

But here we are in 2024, being asked and in some cases required to use skin color to effect outcomes in admissions (recently deemed illegal by the Supreme Court), in business (likely illegal yet it happens nonetheless) and in government (also I believe in most cases to be illegal, except apparently in government contracting), rather than the content of one’s character. As such, a meritocracy is an anathema to the DEI movement. DEI is inherently a racist and illegal movement in its implementation even if it purports to work on behalf of the so-called oppressed.

And DEI’s definition of oppressed is fundamentally flawed.

Edit: Ackman's article is now available via Bari Weiss' outlet - The Free Press:

Yesterday, we had dinner at a really cool little place on the beach. We arrived early so we could watch the sunset with dinner. Before sunset we were treated to some whales frolicking. Not the best picture, but that white poof is a whale spout.

That's cool! I'd like to stand him next to one of ours and see if I can tell a difference. I think they're smaller but who knows? Probably the internet knows.

not really what you expect in the Baltic, which has virtually no tides to mention. Must have been a hell of a wind.

Our power was off and on, mostly off until about 3PM yesterday. Gave me a big tease yesterday morning when I thought I might get a pot of coffee brewed and just as I went toward the kitchen - bonk, nothingness.

We're mostly good here, just the normal cleanup. But the next town over took a big hit.

Watch the video from 2.12 mins. to get a glimpse of my "front yard". Water is expected to rise another 2-3 yards tonight, which if it happens as projected will flood the whole town.

Evacuated my home moving everything "up" as far as possible. Hope I'll have an apartment to return to after tonight.

Personally, I don't care.
Palm Springs has always been kitsch-fest since I can remember. It's a little too weird for me. I went to high school there in the late 60's early 70's.

Yeah, I thought the statue was poorly crafted and kind of stupid, even though our art museum was having a Marilyn exhibit. I withdraw the offer. Still the whole thing brought in a ton of tourism money.

Which side are you on Kurt?

Maybe we should offer her asylum since for some reason people loved having the statue here.

Well, not real happy to drive up to Yukca.
Have to drive through Desert Hot Flash and Moron(go) Valley to get there.
I have plenty to do down here in the Coachella Valley.
Oh well... it'll pay more off on my car I'm trying to build.
Come on down Lily!
