It's so cute how y'all love each other... the inner group... you're lucky to have such friendships. You'll need them when you're older.

A drunk guy walks into a bar and sees a sign that reads "win $500" hanging on the wall. He asks the bartender, "how do I win $500?"

The bartender says, "see that bouncer over there?" The drunk guy turns to look and sees the biggest, scariest-looking beast of a man standing next to the door. "Yeah," he says. The bartender says, "you have to go over there and knock him out with one punch." "Then I win $500?" the drunk guy asks. "Not quite," says the bartender.

"You see that other door over there? Outside that door is a mean hungry rabid rottweiler with an abscessed tooth. You have to go out there and pull that tooth out." "Then I win $500?" the drunk guy asks. "Not quite," says the bartender.

"After that, you have to go up those stairs and three doors down on the left. Inside that room is an 89-year-old lady who hasn't gotten laid in 50 years. It's up to you to show her a good time." "THEN I get the $500?" the guy asks. "Yep," says the bartender.

The guy ponders this challenge for a moment, then gets up, stumbles over to the bouncer. He balls up his fist and, incredibly, knocks the huge man out with one hit.

He then stumbles to the door and goes outside to where the dog is being kept. Growls and snarls mix chaotically with yelling and screaming until the door finally opens and the drunk guy staggers back into the bar. His clothes are tattered and dirty, his hair is matted with sweat and blood, his face and arms are scratched and bleeding.

He looks up at the bartender and says, "alright, now where's that lady who needs a tooth pulled?"

"In July of 2012, in an admirable attempt to secure him as a guest on his Nerdist Podcast, Chris Hardwick sent a beautiful 1934 Smith Corona to noted typewriter collector Tom Hanks and popped the question. Within days, Hanks responded with the charming letter seen below, typed on the Corona.
Unsurprisingly, the anecdote-filled podcast that resulted is wonderful. It can be heard here."

I abhor LOUD.   Guess it is all about tastes.  Weird, I am the first guy to complain when the band is too loud.

Yeah, I've been to a lot of concerts lately where it's just impossible to enjoy them because of the booming distorted loudness. I figure there was a sound check and it would have been even boomier then since the venue would be unoccupied. But, damn, once you're in the middle of that unlistenable thumping how the hell do you get it to lessen? A few years ago I went to see Dylan and Kings of Leon were so loud we couldn't hear ourselves talk - outside past the doors near the concessions.

This
is what it makes me think of :-)
Sometimes I take ear plugs just to be on the safe side, I agree that it can be painfully loud, irrespective of the music itself, and some damage to hearing is irreversible, not good.

To add to my original story, the problem might have been that the treble was turned up too high as the last use of the sound board was for a play.  We did not get an opportunity to sound check the entire band playing together at full volume.  Once rectified the complaints stopped.

But yes, too many acts or venues are too loud and in general we are not careful enough with our hearing.  Back in the mid-70s in various blue collar jobs with high noise levels, I was the only worker consistently wearing ear protection.

Here is a cute story about a very young scientist:   Some kids say hand dryers hurt their ears. A Canadian girl conducted a study about it   According to NPR, she started this study at the age of 9!  Now that makes me laugh in a very, very good way!

Thanks for this, that was entertaining and instructive. It's funny how PPE is sometimes looked down on by workers. Then again, they're not always given the choice of which PPE they'd like to wear. A colleague of mine did a study and showed that in some cases, workers not wearing PPE were better protected than those who were wearing them improperly. It was chemical protective suits and gloves. The PPE-less workers were more careful and those who wore them had not been trained properly on donning / doffing them.

I just hope that by the time this young scientist gets older, there will still be occupational health and safety laws and standards!

Thanks for sharing.
