I didn't even have to read the headline... just the pickup truck and decal screamed PANHANDLE. Florida, like California and New York is a 2 in 1 state - the down south and the up north. Down south (anything below I-4) is starting to take control but we have plenty of Florida Man (Men?) in the Panhandle to keep up our sterling reputation.
Miami.... care to chime in?
florida has super diverse population (and a lot of visitors/transients)
possibly leading to more crime or acts of violence (and horrible drug laws/policy) thus the third largest dept of corrections
politically, like almost every other state, heavily populated areas tend to lean dem/blue
rural areas the other direction, so the panhandle may fit into that generalization
my panhandle experience outside of tallahassee has all been costal beach time
for two years i subcontracted with the fl dept of corrections here in sofla (benefits/retirement consultant)
i actually went into the reception centers and external offices to speak to the employees
of course i never heard anything about crazy officers (except the occasional smuggling of contraband and sex with inmates)
it was always about violent inmates raping and beating each other (gangs/cliques) tribal hierarchy stuff
from what i could tell most were somewhat model inmates just doing time and wanted to get the f out
same with the guards, just doing a job and making another payday (because of training a lot of them were plucked out to work in police depts for better pay)
i gleaned the article and if they have video, it has certainly been viewed and if someone is doing something wrong they would have to answer
what does that look like? probably firing and possible incarceration (there are active efforts to weed bad employees out - see fbi investigations)
i'm not sure of the conspiratorial inner circle stuff (that's why almost everything is captured on video now)
this isn't like something happening on the street, it's a highly controlled environment
secret nefarious cabals getting large groups of officers to risk careers, livelihoods and time behind bars might make a good story, but i'd guess that it is unlikely to happen
if the
guy in question has a case or valid claim then i believe that something will come out of it
i guess we will see what happens
