That reminds me of an incident. Not as bad as what you're seeing, but still. Some neighbours who live not far behind us, their kids are having some kind of party. This was a number of years ago. It's kind of late at night. They (the kids) step out in the woods that are right behind our house and start raising hell. Screaming, laughing out loud, one girl especially. Like i said, it was late at night. I stepped out on our back deck with my 2nd daughter in tow. I shouted out at them telling to keep in down. One of the girls screamed back at me, basically to tell me to STFU. The girl was a friend of one of the neighbour's boy, and he tried to shush her up (he was a nice kid, really). When that girl screamed back at me, i turned to my daughter and said, "Don't you ever act like that when you grow up". She said she wouldn't. I believed her.

Hope you get better soon, Alexandra. {#Cheers}

WHY THE HELL DOES a FIFTEEN YEAR OLD HAVE A MORTAR???

I couldn't find any news articles (fake or otherwise) to back up the story I've heard about who caused the latest wildfire in the Gorge, but it's burning up one of the most beautiful areas around here, and causing lots of trauma and evacuation of people...and over one hundred hikers had to spend the night in the forest because it stranded them. Totally senseless. I hope if it's true, the kid is severely fined, punished, and made to do weeks of community service.

Don't impose unrealistic deadlines, recognize that (however careless it was) it wasn't malicious. Get the work done before you get final payment in case there's something the estimator missed or the insurance won't cover.

But above all be ready to let it go. If the guy can't pay he won't, and no amount of legal action will get blood out of a stone. And if he can but is just a dick about it he can drag his feet and make it cost you more to pursue than you'll ever get from him.

Don't obsess about it, don't get emotionally wrapped up in it, just be ready to let it go. The peace of mind/karma is worth more than the fender.

Sent him an email this morning asking if he was aware that his insurance wasn't current. Not gonna hold my breath on hearing back from him. If I do, I'll offer him the opportunity to do the right thing and reimburse our deductible, and then I won't hold my breath on that, either.

According to the state insurance commissioner 25% of drivers in this state are uninsured. Pretty sad state of affairs, but probably correlates to the poverty level in this state to some extent.

That is what you have uninsured or under insured coverage for.  Make your insurance company cover it under your uninsured coverage and they will go after the other driver to get reimbursed.  Shouldn't cost you a dime.  Depending on your state, the court should know that he is uninsured when he shows up for the citation and that will play out according to the laws of your state.  Restitution is usually a part of that.

Edit:  I see that I was wrong about uninsured coverage in your state.

What does Uninsured Motorist Coverage pay for?

UM pays you, resident members of your family, and occupants of your auto for personal injuries caused by an uninsured motorist, an underinsured motorist or a hit and run driver. It does not pay for damages to your car! If an uninsured motorist damages your car, repairs would be paid for under your Collision coverage. If you carry Liability only, there would be no insurance coverage available to repair your car.

my other half was rear-ended by a guy with no insurance

our coverage (geico) paid and they will seek recompense from him

she paid the deductible ($250 i think, i wasn't very involved in the process)

Charming! It turns out the guy who hit us let his insurance policy expire. The expiration date on his verification was December of this year, but apparently he didn't bother to pay the premiums. Guess I'll be going down to the station house with the letter of denial from his former insurance carrier and swearing out a complaint to have him cited for being uninsured. Also, I'll see him in small-claims court at some point to ask a judge to make him pay our deductible.

They need to tweek the state law so that if you're paying in 30-day increments (or quarterly or bi-annually) that the verification states that and the expiration date actually means something.

Couldn't find a video (the bit was from 40 years ago, 1976), but here's the transcript. Just imagine Akryoyd doing his best Jimmuh Carter:

Uh, hi there, everybody. It's good to see your faces. Tonight I want to talk to you about a timeless Democratic tradition - sexual performance in the White House! < smiles and salutes the crowd > I am going to personally try to be a lusty, zesty kind of president, and follow.. < winks at girl in the crowd > Hi, baby. How are you? < returns to speech > ..and follow the lusty example of LBJ, JFK, and FDR. I want you to remember for a moment the love life of Harry Truman, and my guess is that his First Lady was one satisfied customer! < makes kissing gestures to girls in the crowd >

It is in my heart that I have commited adultery, and that God forgives me, and.. um.. I forgot to add when I said that, that I have worn women's clothing.. < pauses and smiles > ..and I look very beautiful in it, too! I dont know why I said that, but I think that in the long run it will help me get elected!

You know, when stopping like this, I have had the opportunity to lust after a lot of women in America, and I have found that.. "East coast girls are really hip, I really dig the styles they wear.." < pauses and smiles > "..and the Northern girls, with the way they look, they keep me warm up there.." < clicks along > "I wish they all could be California girls!"

So far in my campaign, I have only fantisized. But now I actually look forward to some of the girls I've lusted after. Saucy vixens like Helena Kazan, Sheri Lewis, Phyliss Newman - actually, I'm not sure God ever forgave me for Phyliss Newman. But I want you to look at our Democratic figures - FDR, LBJ, JFK, Harry Truman - now, here were lusty, zesty men, seething with vital hormonal secretions. These were men of action. Doers. Democrats! As your president, I look forward to deeply satisfying each and every last one of you! God forgive us all! Thank you!

< waves and salutes crowd >

< dissolve to SUPER: "Democrats Do It" >

< fade out >
