Cool, thanks.  I think the original series is on Amazon (or maybe just Season 1 is) but I didn't see the special listed there.

Those of you familiar with the extraordinary, brilliant show The Detectorists might want to check your streaming services for the recent Christmas special. Mackenzie Crook thought about this one for a long time, and it pays off nicely. Do not read anything about it that might tell you anything about the plot. Let it unfold and you'll be rewarded.

The original series (has three seasons before it wraps up poignantly, smartly)
The recent special

I never get the remote unless it's baseball season, but for some reason a few days ago I was surfing around the Apple TV and started this show. I definitely don't binge watch anything but I am done with Season 1 including the last four episodes last night. I really can't understand why no one wants to watch it with me because the cast is strong, it's not ultra-violent (some needless gore though, that makes Justine clock out), and the premise is pretty cool. The only time the show clunks is when they try to work the phrase, "Slow Horses," into the dialog. Which isn't often, so hey.

When the second season came out I was happy/bummed because I am NOT one to wait patiently for weekly
episodes.
I also always watch Acorn and Britbox for the british (and scottish and welsh and northern irish and irish)
detective series. Many made from books and also based on true events. You see the same cast of characters
over and over in various roles, recycling from show to show. It's very different than the plastic, formulaic
american shows. Although Echo 3 was quite good for a yank production. (Subtitles on is a must when
watching britbox and acorn, though. ) Looking forward to Pale Blue Eye because of the plot and cast. Anything
with Toby Jones is generally really good/funny.

Season 4 Premieres in Four Days

A new chapter begins. Don’t miss all-new episodes of the award-winning HBO Original sci-fi series.

Westworld Season 4 premieres Sunday at 9 pm ET.

Bummed and surprised to read recently that Westworld got cancelled.

I watched the first episode of "Peripheral", apparently produced by the creators of Westworld. Based on a novel by William Gibson and available on Amazon Prime. Quite good sci-fi in which virtual reality becomes immersive and dangerous.

Also on Amazon Prime—"The English" with Emily Blunt. Slow burn with great acting and period details.  A twisted and cynical Western, good so far as the 1990's "Lonesome Dove", my gold standard for TV Westerns.

"Manhattan" on AMC+ (you can get a subscription to the channel with Amazon Prime). About the Manhattan Project and the struggle to find a workable bomb design. Great stuff although it's frustratingly light on explaining the technical matters.

"Sprung" on Freeverse via Amazon Prime. A bunch of misfits with a healthy disrespect for the law try to make some get-rich-quick scores during the Covid lockdown. I never saw "Raising Hope" but two of "Sprung's main actors were on that previous series and I suspect the type of humor was similar.

"The Outfit" on Amazon Prime with Christopher Walken and a number of great British comedians. A group of people from all walks of life in Bristol perform community service as part of punishment for minor offenses but quickly get caught up in the financial rewards of a successful drug ring. Quite funny. Walken as always is a hoot to watch for being so shifty and weird.
