I think everyone should cut this ref some slack. He didn't have a clear view of the play.

Edit: I actually feel bad for both the ref and the Lions. Even though the ref blew the call, the technology exists to make sure the NFL gets these calls right, so all the blame shouldn't go to the line ref. Apparently that play wasn't reviewable per NFL rules, but come on, when there's a game-deciding change of possession call there needs to be some common sense. The NFL officials "upstairs" are able to look at the replays along with all of us on TV, so they should be able to communicate with the refs on the field to overturn an obviously missed game-changing call.

Bad calls get made all the time, it's just that they normally balance out a bit more and don't have an impact in the last seconds of the game. They also make a lot of good calls that I don't like, and they do a pretty good job with a thick rule book. I bet there are more than 30 teams this week that will be reviewing that rule in the locker room.
