John Hiatt was a class act last night. Played a lot of my favorites and really seemed to be enjoying himself.
He was looking out over the festival grounds and said, "I'm looking at all those food booths...corndogs, bourbon chicken, gyros, elephant ears.....and it's making me hungry!" (The crowd laughs) "But I don't see any funnel cakes."
I told my friend, who also grew up in Ohio, "John Hiatt must be from the Midwest." (Sure enough - Indiana) I have yet to see Funnel Cakes out west.
Texas has them. And Arizona. The PNW is not very "West". ;)

As it turns out, Phil hasn't lost a beat and he can still wail. He and the band just ate up the stage with a great high energy show. You know who sucks though? His fans. I can't remember seeing such an uninvolved, dead ass crowd in a long time. Everyone cheered and clapped after the songs, but while they played, no movement. No one wanted to break a hip I guess.
Carolyn was able to nab the set list and had the band sign it at the meet and greet after the show. Really fun stuff.
Unfortunately Dave goes onstage at 4pm in Mendocino that day. But it could still happen...
Of course it'd be better with him, but Phil is just frenetic and really makes the show. Last time I saw him tho... 20 years ago Maybe he sucks now.

Yes he does. I saw a few shows back in the olden times.
This was a very small venue called "The Casbah" with a main room about as big as our living room. The sound system would have done itself proud at Qualcomm Stadium! We resonated with the speakers for about half the show, them went outside where the sound was still more than sufficient and watched the planes coming in to land at San Diego Int'l - about 200 feet over our heads. Kinda trippy.
Phil is definitely older. What a great front man though. Just last year while in Spain on tour, he apparently had trouble breathing and needed an emergency tracheotomy to save his life.

Oh well, it was a long shot.

Some vintage Blasters with Phil and Dave in the lineup.
Yeah, Dave's not in the current lineup, but I'm hoping he'll surprise us. We've seen Dave a few times and he always rips it up, but I've never seen the Blasters.

We saw them in SD last Thanksgiving weekend with Z&Z. They had kind of added Dave to the group, but he didn't make it that weekend. Phil and Company put on a good show anyway.

Front row center tix for the Blasters Saturday night.
