Here in Cleveburg I had a couple of friends who were members, one being the treasurer of the local chapter. All nice people, to me anyway. One thing for sure, if they said they had your back, they had your back.

In any gathering of Hell's Angels, from five to a possible hundred and fifty, there is no doubt who is running the show: Ralph "Sonny" Barger, the Maximum Leader, a six-foot, 170-pound warehouseman from East Oakland, the coolest head in the lot, and a tough, quick-thinking dealer when any action starts. By turns he is a fanatic, a philosopher, a brawler, a shrewd compromiser and a final arbitrator. To the Oakland Angels he is Ralph. Everybody else calls him Sonny . . . although when the party gets wild and loose he answers to names such as Prez, Papa and Daddy. Barger's word goes unquestioned, although many of the others could take him in two minutes if it ever came to a fight. But it never does. He rarely raises his voice—except in a rumble with outsiders.
After screening The Last Waltz, Ronnie turned to the Band and said something like, "Well that movie could use a bit more Robbie in it!"
and, from an article about him: "To this day, I have never heard a Beatle album. For 10 billion dollars, I couldnât name one song on âAbbey Road.â I have never in my life picked up a Beatle album, and listened to it. Never."
OK That 3 for today this week and we are not accepting any more bad news. Although in Rays case Iâm surprised he lasted this long with his destructive ways. He was a good character actor.
