1054 – A supernova is seen by Chinese, Arab and possibly Amerindian observers near the star Zeta Tauri. For several months it remains bright enough to be seen during the day. Its remnants form the Crab Nebula.

It's interesting - and sad - that the list of daily events on Wikipedia is; particularly in ancient history, dominated by battles and the beginning and end of wars. Apparently those were considered the most important events in human existence.
