I guess that first love thing is as old as mankind.
It seems to be what karma must be.
All our most dear and unfulfilled wishes keep following us. And if it comes to meeting a childhood love, and that wish is mutual, then it's a sure thing for both to experience again.
I've had that experience with my first love, which originally lasted from my being 15 to 20 yrs. of age. When it was finished back then, I was simply destroyed for years to come, couldn't ever fall in love again, or so I'd thought. Time told differently.
Long story short, we met again after some 20plus years, and it was like we never parted, whenever we kept meeting each other over the following years, living in different places, each having their own family, we both could be as close, as ever.
When I was in my first relationship with her as a youth, I'd always thought she was gonna be my lifetime partner, although she'd left me when I was 20 something. - This last year, she died of cancer. I am still in touch with her younger brother, as he always looked at me as the older brother he never had.

Another good love story... with a sad ending.

To add to my probably boring post below... I'm still in contact with my first grade teacher who is now 84 years old.
Who, by the way, I had a crush on. Go figure.

I sent her some flowers last Valentine's Day.  And she wrote me a real nice handwritten letter back thanking me for doing such a sweet thing.

Every one and their bond to another is different to be sure.

For us, we have discussed all that happened and figured out how things fell apart.  Few people ever get that opportunity and that kind of closure in life.  Me having moved back east was a major thing, but just a small part as we went through things.  That said, all those 30 years apart simply vanished with the first kiss at the airport when we saw each other again after all those years apart.  We both agreed that the part of us that was missing for all those years was now back and that individually we were whole again.  There was no need to explain references to thoughts and comments.  We were together back then when these references were originally formed.  Almost immediately we could complete each other's sentences.  No one out here ever really understood my references to things and I had to find new ways to connect to people.  Our cohort from that time and place was small and very unique as it has turned out.  I would have to say that our other Kurt here was part of that same cohort, but he stayed connected to it as did the wife until she moved out here.  He would know that Tina Delgado is alive, alive !  No one else here does.  Stuff like that.
Very nice some more.

The Real Don Steele reference noted!

37 years later you have a chance meeting, the stars are aligned (or however you want to look at it), you get that second kiss and never look back.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

What a great story.
I like the pretend wedding part.
Or my part were I loved every girl in the 8th grade... when I was in the first grade. They were all the hall monitors.  And I was the hall flirter.
I got a lot of Valentines on Valentines Day from them.  I got razed by all my friends. My reply... "So what?"
I am the hopeless romantic. It all started in the 1st grade.

I was thinking the other day... those girls are all 76 years old now.
I wish I could meet them again.

My older brother was very happily married for 50+ years then, one night, he went into the living room and she had passed quietly while watching TV. Of course, he was the heavy smoker and careless eater and had beaten cancer twice...

Much later, he recontacted a girl he'd known in grade school and - although he describes their initial teenage relationship as frustrating (he traveled across the country to see her when she moved, but she was cold to him then) - they're now in some sort of relationship that suits them both, in their mid-70s.

I imagine it's gotta be nearly impossible to have set up your life for all that time and then try to be around someone else with the same...inertia. But he's fantastically interesting, bright, creative guy - so she likely got the good end of the deal.

Sweet, sweet story, A. So happy for you both.
