Must of been a east coast thing.
Like Engineer Bill was a California thing.
I watched that show faithfully for quite a few years back in the late 50's/  early 60's.

When I was 9 or 10 and living in Ohio, a kid down the street had a tank his dad had built of plywood. Two kids could sit in the hull and Flintstone it around while another occupied a fully rotating turret with 2" pipe gun. It was awesome.

I had both of these when I was around 7 years old...

Wow! I can't believe what they're asking for these toys that I beat on as a kid.
Yep. I was into war when I was a kid.
I had a toy "Sargent Saunders" Thompson Submachine Gun that went into many a battle with me.

Revell, Aurora, AMT...I could have spent hours in such an aisle when I was that kid's age.

Most memorable was a bottom to top Saturn V with an Apollo LM and CM on top.

And then there were the firecrackers...

To this day I bear the scar of sloppy exacto knife handling (sliced off index finger tip) when assembling one of these kits. Ah, the smell of toluene certainly brings back memories.

Lusted for and then received.
Learned to make my own ink.  And a crude form of gunpowder.

I built virtually the entire Imperial Japanese Navy in 1/700 scale.

Dang. Are we long lost brothers? {#Lol}
I must have built 50 models.

I had a Red Baron Fokker Tri Plane hanging from my ceiling battling Spads in a dogfight.
Numerous other planes hanging. Cars everywhere. And the U.S.S. Constitution.
That's where I started my love for all things Mopar.
And started shooting my Chevys and Fords with my pellet gun. Or setting them on fire. Or blowing them up with M-80's.
I still have that urge today. I need to contain my road rage hate for Chevys. {#Cheesygrin}

I went on a spree and bought a bunch of the stuff a few years back. I think it's AFX, might be Tyco? Anyway, I made a track to fit onto a 4'x8' piece of plywood. Not enough straight to really let 'em rip, but fun. I'd love to do a permanent installation when we get the game room sorted out.
