There are several great art museums, including the DeYoung at Golden Gate Park. Also, there is a newly-renovated science museum across the way from the DeYoung that I've heard great things about (the renovation and appeal to attendees, that is). SF also has a modern art museum about which I've heard great things.

In nearby Napa, go drink wine. The Rolling Stone photo exhibit may still be on at Markham Vineyards and is well worth seeing when touring wine country.

If you go to the top of Mt. Tamalpais in Marin County (across the GG bridge), you may just get above the fog and be treated to a spectacular view.

A tour of Alcatraz might be something to do on a foggy day.

Dude! We are living on the top of Mt. Tam! Yesterday we started at the top and walked all the way down. (Smart enough to leave cars in both places.)

I think we will go to the DeYoung, taking the ferry from Sausalito.

Patience ,,,

It'll work out.

Everytime back, I'm thinking how can I do this.  Do I really want to do it ?

Last time the answer was no.  This time its yes.  I dunno.

Heading back Saturday to Ohiya.

Well, it's not the only place I'm looking to move anymore...I kind of have my eye on somewhere cheaper but just as lovely. But if something turned up, that paid enough to survive there...I'd definitely take it.

Alright, what did you guys do with Catalina ?

I used to be able to see it almost everyday looking out my window at home as a kid.

I have been back a few times in the past 4 years and its not out there anymore.  Alls I see is clouds.  Doesn't matter what time of year I'm out here.

Did China buy it and move it ?  WTF ... ?

Yes, the Channel Islands offshore of Santa Barbara have a habit of disappearing and reappearing too. I love that!

I do know there are express water-taxis leaving Long Beach to take people there.  I never really pay attention to see if they bring people back - maybe I should now {#Eek}

Well, you HAVE to spend at least one day in Point Reyes National Seashore, and don't miss the short walk from the parking lot to the very TOP of Mt. Tamalpais.

Check the goings on at 142 Throckmorton Theater in MV, as you may just catch Bob Weir or Dan Hicks.

For dinner, I really like Angelino's in Sausalito and, if in SF, there's nothing better than Thanh Long.

And if you're going to get down to Big Sur, Deetjen's is THE place for a cosmic brunch you'll never forget. (It's just too bad they don't offer a really magic mushroom omelette, but hey....)

My SO and I have decided to pass on Burning Man this year and take a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to freeload off my brother who is house sitting in Mill Valley. We will be arriving around the 23rd and leaving that area to travel to Yosemite or some other camping area on the 28th and returning home Labor Day weekend.

So:

1) Anybody have any suggestions for restaurants/sites we absolutely shouldn't miss while in the area?

2) If anyone would like to meet the Hippiechick in person (I am really a very nice person!) please pm me and we will try to meet up while we are there.

{#Mrgreen} Yes, it would have been punny indeed.

Try to see the aquarium.  I haven't been in many years, but I remember it being a fun experience and one of the best I ever visited.
