RPeeps!

Letting you know you I got the Facial Hair growing all month for No-Shave November.

Each day, 22,000 people die from cancer worldwide (WHO). There's a good chance that someone you know and love will be affected by this disease. Nearly half of cancer diagnoses and deaths are preventable. No-Shave November's mission is to not only raise funds for cancer research and treatment but to educate the population about preventative measures. For over six years, participants around the globe have put down their razors and foregone their hair appointments to join the fight against cancer. The No-Shave November campaign has successfully raised over $3.5 million dollars to combat this disease. Every dollar raised brings us one step closer in our efforts to fund cancer research and education, help prevent the disease, and aid those fighting the battle. Each whisker grown allows us to embrace our hair, which many cancer patients lose during treatment. Will you join me?

And now for this important word from our sponsor:

Let it Grow and Join the Fight Against Cancer!

shameless bump

The Red Cross is providing medical assistance and supplies to victims, as well as meals and dozens of shelters for displaced residents.

You can give by visiting the organization’s website or by texting the word LAFLOODS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.

The United Way of Southeast Louisiana

Donations for flood relief can be made through the organization’s website, and they’ve set up two regional outposts where donations are being accepted.

Convoy of Hope

This organization is providing food, water, equipment and relief supplies to victims. Donate through the website and specify that you want your donation to go to Louisiana August 2016 flood relief efforts.

Baton Rouge Area Foundation

This local organization accepts donations through its website and then directs those gifts to community non-profits who need it.

Take another look at this. See the last line on the page, paid for by the center for consumer freedom?

According to Wiki:

The Center for Consumer Freedom (CCF), formerly the Guest Choice Network, is an American non-profit firm that lobbies on behalf of the fast foodmeatalcohol and tobacco industries. It describes itself as "dedicated to protecting consumer choices and promoting common sense," and defending "the right of adults and parents to choose how they live their lives, what they eat and drink, how they manage their finances, and how they enjoy themselves."

CCF was set up in 1995 by Richard Berman, executive director of the public affairs firm Berman and Company, with $600,000 from the Philip Morris tobacco company to fight smoking curbs in restaurants. Berman told The Washington Post that CCF is now funded by a coalition of restaurant and food companies as well as some individuals; according to the group's website it is supported by over 100 companies and thousands of individual consumers. Sponsors are reported to include Brinker International, RTM Restaurant Group (the owner of Arby's), Tyson Foods, HMSHost Corp, and Wendy's.

CCF has campaigned against a number of organizations, such as the Centers for Disease Control, theCenter for Science in the Public InterestMothers Against Drunk DrivingPeople for the Ethical Treatment of AnimalsHumane Society of the United States and Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, and maintains several websites devoted to criticizing them. The CCF state that "despite their innocent-sounding names, many of these organizations are financial Goliaths that use junk science, intimidation tactics, and even threats of violence to push their radical agenda". Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine has responded "If you are in the business of putting veal or beef on the tables of America, and slaughtering more than a million animals per hour, and making an awful lot of money at it, you are going to try to neutralize PETA or other animal-rights groups"

13th Annual Hannah's Buddies Charity Charity Classic, March 30-31, 2012

Orlando, Florida

The Hannah's Buddies Charity Classic began in 2000 with John Bell of Widespread Panic deciding to help his goddaughter and tens of thousands of children in their fight against SMA. Today, the golf tournament, silent/auction and concert lineup attracts more than 2,000 participants and has raised nearly $2 million for SMA research.

Spinal Muscular Atrophy is a neuromuscular disease that affects between 1 in 6,000 and 1 and 20,000 births. Over time, SMA causes muscles to become weak and considerably smaller. On average, 1 in 40 people are genetic carriers.

If you are unable to attend the event or want to become a sponsor, there are a variety of opportunities to support the fight against SMA. Auction donations also are welcome.

Hannah's Buddies 2012

Hello Travelers,
Our thanks go out to all of the participants and volunteers joining forces in Orlando for this year's upcoming 13th annual Hannah's Buddies Charity Ball, silent auction, and golf "tournament." Thanks also to those donating items for the auction. Some of these can be previewed here, along with written descriptions of other kind donations for this event.

Two things we need to mention: Registration for the golf is full, but a reduced donation of $125 dollars dollars will allow those shut out of the golf to participate in the silent auction (concert ticket included). Also, if you have a last minute item you have been meaning to donate for the auction, we need to receive it by Tues., March 27 at this address: Hannah's Buddies c/o The Elliotts / 719 S. Orleans Ave. / Tampa, FL 33606. Please include a suggested value/starting bid so we can honor your donation appropriately.

Thank you all! See you on the 30th and 31st.
