Just this past hour, I was made aware of the facts that lie in two US Codes that would apply directly to former FBI Director Comey that:

He is required by law to report any attempts of or actual obstruction of justice immediately to the DOJ and that failure to do so would result in the loss of his law license as well as jail time.

The event that everyone is foaming and frothing over, the alleged Comey memo stating just that, would now get Comey in as much or more trouble than Trump if true.  He failed to report obstruction of justice and therefore becomes complicit in same.

Now if in fact Comey wrote these kinds of memos on a regular basis, then we should also see what he wrote about regarding interactions with Obama.

If indeed Comey did find there to be obstruction of justice regarding Trump, it is still officially unreported 3 months after the event took place.

Until I see the memo, I must say that all of those who think this is the smoking gun you've been drooling over to end your nightmare, the Trump presidency, you are being played, big time.  Or Trump is the one with the least amount of problems as this stuff moves forward.

There is indeed corruption going on somewhere, but your attentions are deliberately being diverted from where it is to be found.

Sleep well.

This is somewhat tangential to your post, but I've never been wholly convinced that Comey has or had any specific agenda; sometimes it seemed like he was bumbling around recklessly.  I do prefer to wait for the dust and smoke to clear and not just 'speculate' about Comey and why he was dismissed at that specific time, and more so: the investigation.  Still, the President has many more problems than just this latest kerfuffle.  We'll have to wait and see - it's still early and just about anything seems possible anymore.

What's fascinating to me is that the Prez truly has no governor and no real concept of right or wrong. Therefore anything he does (in his mind) is right and justified based on his status as Leader of the Free World. He can't even fathom stepping outside of himself long enough to consider how an action he is contemplating could be wrong because he could never be wrong. This isn't news to anyone but these personality flaws are impossible shortcomings to have as president.

His impulsiveness, inflexibility, and inability to truly contemplate the consequences of his actions are what I believe what will ultimately lead to his undoing because the parade of horrors will simply continue.

Call me naive, but I believe that even the rank and file GOP has a limit on how long they can continue to support Trump's batsh*t crazy chaos. Everyone has limits. I'm just left to wonder what will be the circumstance or set of circumstances that will finally, irreversibly set in motion his undoing.

It's a 4 year lease with one option to renew.  Eviction is a pain in ass, and unless you can prove criminal activity the Sheriff won't be enthusiastic about it either.

Yet another promise from your man that you have selectively forgotten. Not only was the plan submitted on time and now sits ignored at the WH,  but it undoubtedly included a multifaceted approach including utilizing whatever intelligence we can get hold of. Trump's idiotic boasting to his Russian handlers has likely severed a vital source of intel and jeopardized our standing in the intel community to the point that we are much less likely to find out what we need to about things like North Korea that you are now wringing your hands over.

You can deflect attention by pointing to other issues he is botching listed above, but you should really do what you used to urge Obama supporters to do here in the forums:. He's your man. Have the guts to own the incompetence and corruption.

What Is Obstruction of Justice? An Often-Murky Crime, Explained

What is obstruction of justice?

Several federal statutes criminalize actions that impede official investigations. While some examples of illegal ways to thwart the justice system are specific — like killing a witness or destroying evidence — the law also includes broad, catchall prohibitions. For example, Sections 15031505 and 1512 of Title 18 have variants of language making it a crime if someone corruptly “obstructs, influences or impedes any official proceeding.”

Could that cover asking the F.B.I. director to drop part of an investigation, and later firing him?

In theory, yes. Such statutes were broadly drafted
Julie O’Sullivan, a former federal prosecutor who now teaches white-collar criminal law at Georgetown University, said the power relationship between a president and the F.B.I. director could elevate a request to shut down a case into an act that amounts to impeding an official investigation.

“He really needs a lawyer,” Ms. O’Sullivan said of Mr. Trump. “He is building a beautiful case against himself.”

Did Trump have lawful authority to fire Comey?

Yes. But courts have ruled that otherwise lawful acts can constitute obstruction of justice if done with corrupt intentions. In a 1998 case, for example, a federal appeals court upheld the conviction of a lawyer who had filed legal complaints and related motions against a government agent who was investigating an illegal gambling operation. The court ruled that the defendant’s “nominally litigation-related conduct” was unlawful because his real motive was “to safeguard his personal financial interests” in the corrupt enterprise.

Comey Memo Says Trump Asked Him to End Flynn Investigation

WASHINGTON — President Trump asked the F.B.I. director, James B. Comey, to shut down the federal investigation into Mr. Trump’s former national security adviser, Michael T. Flynn, in an Oval Office meeting in February, according to a memo Mr. Comey wrote shortly after the meeting.

“I hope you can let this go,” the president told Mr. Comey, according to the memo.

The existence of Mr. Trump’s request is the clearest evidence that the president has tried to directly influence the Justice Department and F.B.I. investigation into links between Mr. Trump’s associates and Russia.

Mr. Comey wrote the memo detailing his conversation with the president immediately after the meeting, which took place the day after Mr. Flynn resigned, according to two people who read the memo. The memo was part of a paper trail Mr. Comey created documenting what he perceived as the president’s improper efforts to influence a continuing investigation. An F.B.I. agent’s contemporaneous notes are widely held up in court as credible evidence of conversations.
...

“I hope you can see your way clear to letting this go, to letting Flynn go,” Mr. Trump told Mr. Comey, according to the memo. “He is a good guy. I hope you can let this go.”Mr. Trump told Mr. Comey that Mr. Flynn had done nothing wrong, according to the memo.

Mr. Comey did not say anything to Mr. Trump about curtailing the investigation, only replying: “I agree he is a good guy.”

...

The Feb. 14 meeting took place just a day after Mr. Flynn was forced out of his job after it was revealed he had lied to Vice President Mike Pence about the nature of phone conversations he had had with the Russian ambassador to the United States.

...

Alone in the Oval Office, Mr. Trump began the discussion by condemning leaks to the news media, saying that Mr. Comey should consider putting reporters in prison for publishing classified information, according to one of Mr. Comey’s associates.

Mr. Trump then turned the discussion to Mr. Flynn.

After writing up a memo that outlined the meeting, Mr. Comey shared it with senior F.B.I. officials. Mr. Comey and his aides perceived Mr. Trump’s comments as an effort to influence the investigation, but they decided that they would try to keep the conversation secret — even from the F.B.I. agents working on the Russia investigation — so the details of the conversation would not affect the investigation.
