The solution? I have no idea. I used to think that another civil war was unthinkable. It's starting to look likely. Can you imagine what the right will do if Trump is impeached? Can you imagine the left supporting an election where Trump gets another term, and/or Pence? There isn't much middle ground on major topics anymore. I don't see a lot of places for people to de-escalate.
The polarization has been with us — and growing — for a while now, but it has shifted into overdrive with the elections of Obama and Trump. It is, or should be, a source of great concern. Distortions and deflections have become the norm. All this has been exacerbated by the exponential rise in mistrust in not just individuals, or political groups and parties, but in institutions that form the bedrocks of our democracy. Attacks on the government and the media are now not only commonplace, but encouraged and cheered. This is not healthy and goes way beyond reasoned skepticism. Fueling these kind of fires is akin to burning down your own house. We need to look at ourselves and how we may be adding to this downward spiral. We seem hellbent on pursuing an us-and-them campaign, blaming "them" for all ills, and absolving "us" from any responsibility for not only the creation of those ills, but finding solutions for them. Yes, It is frightening to hear phrases like: "we are taking back our country." Sadly, this appears more and more to be the new normal.

VV wrote:I think you may need a little help in drawing your deductions as I wasn't actually making the inference that the program itself is racist. I would imagine that this office would also support immigrant victims of crimes committed by other immigrants but my inclination there would be to think that those instances would not be given much of a priority. I was merely supporting the point that (given the creation of a program such as this) you can easily see why Trump is motivated to tweet out his outrage when there are crimes where immigrants are the perpetrators and remaining mum when it is the other way around. FYI, I have gone to the (VOICE) website and read over the material there and defy anyone to do the same and come back with any solid idea of what that agency really does on behalf of victims (https://www.ice.gov/voice#wcm-survey-target-id). Please!... enlighten me on the meaning and usage of rhetoric (or what you perceive it to be) as it appears you have crowned yourself the expert. I would be happy to learn at the feet of the master. You have a nine year start on this earth before me so you must have amassed nine years worth of knowledge more than me. BTW, is there a charge for these lessons as I'm on a pretty tight budget? Do you accept Paypal? If your ancestors didn't land in California on the Mayflower, then you don't qualify.

My problem is with the utter vulgarity with which Trump (and seemingly most of his staff) governs.
Clearly, a vindictive move. Done at 10 pm, immediately announced to the press and followed by a tweet from a gloating Trump.
