I just cut all the mailing addresses of 20+ years of graphics, software development and photography magazines piled up.I put half of them out this week for recycling and would have loved to see the look on the guys face as he threw them into the collection truck. Just wait until 2 weeks from now when the next collection batch goes out and he pulls up and drives past shaking his fist and flipping the bird. Thats 20 wine boxes and about 15 lbs. each for those trying to figure out the math. And I'm about half way way to getting the job done. And what about all the boxes of Adobe, Macromedia, and Apple obsolete software from 1988 to the present ... And lets not talk of all the hardware that goes along with all that

The most intimidating basic tool in graphics programs is the Pen. Bézier curves are the bread and butter of vector illustrations but it's hard to get the knack of it and easy to lose it too. This Game Will Help Teach the Pen Tool.

No one, even the most ardent Comic Sans fan, is advocating that everything everywhere should be Comic Sans. And no one who "hates" Comic Sans wants it actually banned. Well there were some links in that article that apparently indicate I'm wrong about that. But the article says Arial is great for some people, and indicates that sans-serif fonts in general work better than serif'd fonts. But they also work better in large type. Arial is Helvetica, essentially, and there's no one complaining that Helvetica is not suitable for professional use. I have to design for legibility by the greatest number of readers. I have to design to suit the material. I have to design to set one client's image apart from the competition. And I have to design to have visual appeal to potential customers. Also designing for legibility amongst dyslexics destroys all of those goals. As does using Comic Sans, whether it's to help with dyslexia or not. It's wonderful that we're in an electronic age now. The author can change her browser's default font to 16pt Comic Sans using extensions (I assume) and as she noted, a lot of material is available online so she can tweak that, too. I get that Times is bad for readers... it's meant to be crowded together and take advantage of non-dyslexic readers' ability to clump words together and identify them by shape, more than by the sequence of letters. It's designed to get more words on a newspaper page than other fonts, especially the old, wide, metal type of the day. The author's right in implying that its use in everyday printing or books is no more appropriate than is Comic Sans. But I really don't care. Don't call me a font snob.
