Not sure I've heard the term "second art" before. edit
 I was trying to make it a term of commercial art. Ah, nevermind.

$1 in 1953 = about $10 now, so about the same as a copy of Comm Arts.

I hadn't heard that term before either; I assume it meant clip-art.

It's their Art and Photography Buyer's Guide issue. The 2nd one they've done.

You graphic designers still need to pay attention to the writing composition

On March 16 HBO will premiere David Simon’s mini-series of Philip Roth’s 2004 novel The Plot Against America. In this alternate history the fascist-leaning America First isolationists field aviator-hero and xenophobic populist Charles Lindbergh for president against Franklin D. Roosevelt. In today’s political era this fiction is all too timely. (...)

Bibliophiles and retro design fans will love the Pelican Project, an online time capsule of book covers from the (now defunct) educational arm of Penguin books. Lovingly curated by editor and journalist Jonathan Bell from his personal collection of Pelican books, the huge online gallery spans the decades from the 1930s to Pelican's final publication in the 80s. Delve into the collection and see for yourself the evolution from formulaic to fantastique at thingsmagazine.net.

Helvetica’s evil twin, Hellvetica, will haunt your nightmares

“We wanted people to see this in the wild and be like, ‘What the HELL is wrong with my computer?'” says the typeface’s creator, Matthew Woodward.

A nonprofit I work with is looking for a web host/platform to build our site on. We're currently running a crusty old roll-your-own site on Hostgator. They have a development toolkit that may be all we need, no idea. Any recommendations for packages that

Are easy to update with fresh content ( a variety of people with minimal computer literacy will need to update different parts of the site)
Have easy-to-use e-commerce tools
Have reasonable and predictable costs
Tech support available at odd hours

If you have someplace you recommend what do you like about them?

Yes, and it was very popular as body text well into the 1980s.  It may have been Palatino that took over after that.

I just cut all the mailing addresses of 20+ years of graphics, software development and photography magazines piled up.I put half of them out this week for recycling and would have loved to see the look on the guys face as he threw them into the collection truck. {#Eek}  Just wait until 2 weeks from now when the next collection batch goes out and he pulls up and drives past shaking his fist and flipping the bird. {#Roflol}
Thats 20 wine boxes and about 15 lbs. each for those trying to figure out the math. {#Ask}

And I'm about half way way to getting the job done. {#Dancingbanana_2}

And what about all the boxes of Adobe, Macromedia, and Apple obsolete software from 1988 to the present ...  {#Think}
And lets not talk of all the hardware that goes along with all that {#Naughty}
