Poll: Support for legal marijuana hits all-time high
Nearly two-thirds of U.S. voters back legalizing marijuana,  according to a Quinnipiac University poll released Thursday.

Support for legalization hit 63 percent in the survey — the highest level of support recorded by a Quinnipiac poll. A third of American voters still oppose legalization, the poll found.

Support for medical marijuana is even higher, at 93 percent. Only about 5 percent of respondents opposed it.

The poll also found little support for Attorney General Jeff Sessions's decision earlier this year to rescind an Obama-era policy that paved the way for individual states to legalize marijuana without federal interference.

Seventy percent of respondents said that they oppose enforcement of federal laws prohibiting marijuana in states that have moved to legalize the substance, while only 23 percent were in favor of such enforcement.

So far, nine states and the District of Columbia have legalized the use of recreational pot, and two dozen states have approved medical marijuana. Nevertheless, the substance remains federally prohibited. (...)

Trudeau could be barred from U.S. after he’s PM because he smoked pot: U.S. lawyer
“He’s admitted to smoking marijuana as an MP,” Len Saunders, a lawyer for The Immigration Law Firm in Washington state, told Canadian Senators Monday. “The second that Prime Minister Trudeau is no longer prime minister, traveling on a diplomatic passport, he is no longer admissible to the United States.”

It’s a point he made to underscore that Canadians need to know the consequences of admitting they’ve smoked up to border guards, and that the Canadian government needs to do more to warn them about that.

Saunders told a senate committee that crossing the border will be a serious problem for any Canadians consuming pot after legalization.

“U.S. customs and border protection officers are going to be asking these questions more frequently because they’re going to know it’s legal in Canada,” he said.

He said every Canadian who consumes legal weed could be deemed inadmissible to the U.S., and that they need to know they don’t have to answer whether they smoke marijuana recreationally.

Sure, if you've been convicted for that multiple times (though you could still get a waiver). But then again, you'd likely be a dangerous a-hole. Can't say the same thing for someone who's just done some, or even a lot of, recreational... So, manzanas y naranjas.

Canada Is Headed Toward an Epic Glut of Marijuana

As you might imagine, Canadian cannabis growers have been angling to get as much of the medicinal cannabis and recreational market as they possibly can, though recreational sales will account for a significantly larger share of total sales. Organic expansion, strategic partnerships, and acquisitions have been occurring at a blistering pace. In fact, four of the five largest marijuana acquisitions of all-time have occurred within a four-month span.

Unfortunately, this rush to grow capacity as quickly as balance sheets will allow could be setting Canada up for an overabundance of cannabis of epic proportions. Even though no one has any real idea how much marijuana Canadians will demand, there's no shortage of guesstimates.

A recent online report from Grizzle figured countrywide demand at around 800,000 kilograms per year. Meanwhile, uOttawa estimates the annual Canadian consumption at 770,000 kilograms, while a 2017 report from the Office of the Parliamentary Budget Officer projected 655,000 kilograms in purely recreational demand. This was at a time when medical cannabis producers were delivering around 80,000 kilograms a year. Everything is a guess at this point, and most folks probably have their preferred source, but the relative consensus is that 730,000 kilograms to 800,000 kilograms is where the annual demand floor lies.

Pro-marijuana legalization group selling rolling papers with Sessions's face
© Screenshot from Jeff-Sesh.com

A group advocating for the legalization of recreational marijuana use is now selling rolling paper with the attorney general's face on the box.

The group, called #JeffSesh, says on its website that it is a campaign to tell Attorney General Jeff Sessions:  "We’re not criminals, junkies or idiots. Regular Jeffs all over the country — good, responsible, patriotic Americans — have a sesh now and then… and it's OK!"

"Every time you sesh with any brand of JeffSesh papers, you’re helping keep the law moving forward — and not back to the Nixon era," the website says. "You’re saying we’ve moved on, Jeff."

The website sells two versions of the rolling papers, a black box and a white box, which both display Sessions's face with a joint in his mouth. The rolling paper sells for $5 a box and is also available on Etsy. (...)

Yes, and it's entertaining. If you had told me 20 years ago that Snoop would have a major TV game show and Martha Stewart would have spent time in Federal prison, and that the two of them would be good friends and collaborators on a cooking show, I would have thought you had been partaking.

Also, Jack in the box has actively marketed their late night meal boxes to stoners for years. If you missed it, you just weren't paying attention.
