I'm all for laws against coke or smack, but I find outlawing nature to be offensive. But, like with coke and smack, there's gold in them thar hills. How would Senator Billy Butthead from Redneck Hell get re-elected if he didn't bring home the prison jobs? And who best to fill those prisons of commerce? How about the more peaceful, intelligent types? Cause they could get in the way anyway. It's like the Khmer Rouge without all the mess.

Hairfarmer wrote:THIS is the key to this issue for me. Good ol' Western medicine: "You have a problem that makes you want to escape the world by altering your brain chemistry? Here, this will stop the symptoms of your problem. All better now!" Addiction is the symptom, not the problem. And as far as people being addicted to canabis? I don't buy it. Nope. Sorry. They might be addicted to intoxication and pot is their preference, but having smoked for extened periods and NOT smoked for extended periods over the last twenty years... No withdrawl, no craving, no addiction. Pot is the leading boogie man in the "War On Drugs" So they have to keep trying to demonize it. As far as I'm concerned the whole "War On Drugs" is nothing more then a, thinly veiled, beuracratic process designed to create a criminal class to fill privately owned prisons, so they can be used as virtual slave-labor and keep the privatized prison industry profitable.
Exactly! I've been told that smoking pot (or doing any substance to alter myself) is an attempt to "not feel something" or to "cover real feelings" or some psycho babble. If that's true, for the life of me, I can't figure out what my "demons" are! Frankly, I don't think I have any, I just like to smoke pot. I agree with everything you said. When we stop filling prisons with people who simply POSSESS marijuana, there will be more room for the "real" criminals.
