cc_rider wrote: My black ice story: while living in DFW we got one of those bad ice storms. Days later, I'm driving home, the roads are clear but it's still cold. I went under one of those really wide overpasses at the big airport. In the middle I saw what looked like water, and instinctively took my foot off the gas. Slid over the ice safely, but the next guy was not so lucky: I heard tires squeal and looked in the rearview to see his truck slide sideways and hit a car coming the other way. Glancing blow, nobody hurt, but still it was amazing.

Beez wrote:I hate winter. I felt so bad....sort-of, but I stood at my kitchen window and watched people skidding down the hill and running off the road in front of my house until they finally closed the road. It was very entertaining to watch. I'd already been through my hell so I had a good laugh watching others go through it. Awful, I know. Here in Austin we used to have a place that would flood sometimes, not far from my old office. When we had a torrential downpour, as soon as it stopped raining we'd walk down there and watch people try to drive through it. It wasn't really dangerous or anything, it was just entertaining watching the cars start to float when the idiots got in deep enough. Plus there was a beer joint there that would give away beers to 'save' them from the flooding...

Learn what it feels like to handle your vehicle on the slick stuff. And don't go out if you don't have to. Be careful. and never assume the road is just wet. black ice is worse than any snow.

Prolly all it does it change the line pressure in the transmission to soften the shifts. Nearly worthless, really.
H for Holy and S for sh*t. That's what it should stand for. That's all I could muster.

Coaxial wrote:Those help before the skid...If the rear starts going to the right you have to steer to the right to get things straight again and then gently back to the left to get straight on the road again... I was able to learn this in an empty strip mall parking lot one morning after being pushed across 5 lanes of traffic by the strand trailer I was pulling with a flatbed in the snow in lovely Erie,PA. I'm trying to remember what I did....I can't even remember. But I noticed this morning that I had a new warning pop up on my screen in the car.....something about traction stability fault - visit workshop. I probably broke something.
