r/bernieblindness

Documenting the intentional media blackout on Bernie Sanders. This includes the media’s down-playing, ignoring and misrepresentation of Bernie Sanders and his campaign.

MANUFACTURING CONSENT
Bernie Blindness is only a symptom of a much larger issue with the mass media.

The treatment of US political figures by the mass media can be readily understood from the propaganda model outlined by Edward S. Herman and Noam Chomsky in their 1988 book, "Manufacturing Consent". It would predict that those who are most opposed to the existing power structure will face the harshest and most critical treatment. Far more leniency will be extended to those who are most supportive of preserving the existing system.

In the book, the authors propose that the mass communication media of the U.S. "are effective and powerful ideological institutions that carry out a system-supportive propaganda function, by reliance on market forces, internalized assumptions, and self-censorship, and without overt coercion", by means of the propaganda model of communication.

What a POS story this is.  It's pretty despicable how the Democons treated Sanders in 2016, and now how they prop up grandma and grandpa.  This is more proof that many Trump supporters are asking a lot of the right questions (though I absolutely believe  Trump is the wrong answer.)

What, Exactly, Is Tulsi Gabbard Up To?

WASHINGTON — Stephen K. Bannon, President Trump’s former chief strategist, is impressed with her political talent. Richard B. Spencer, the white nationalist leader, says he could vote for her. Former Representative Ron Paul praises her “libertarian instincts,” while Franklin Graham, the influential evangelist, finds her “refreshing.”

And far-right conspiracy theorists like Mike Cernovich see a certain MAGA sais quoi.

“She’s got a good energy, a good vibe. You feel like this is just a serious person,” Mr. Cernovich said. “She seems very Trumpian.”

Among her fellow Democrats, Representative Tulsi Gabbard has struggled to make headway as a presidential candidate, barely cracking the 2 percent mark in the polls needed to qualify for Tuesday night’s debate. She is now injecting a bit of chaos into her own party’s primary race, threatening to boycott that debate to protest what she sees as a “rigging” of the 2020 election. That’s left some Democrats wondering what, exactly, she is up to in the race, while others worry about supportive signs from online bot activity and the Russian news media.

Obviously they are going to try to sweep her under the rug, but I have seen some signs that the DNC actually is thinking properly about the general this year and have learned some lessons after the Clinton debacle.  They are wisely withholding their endorsements of the previously "chosen" Warren because they realize she would be a disaster for them in the general despite Trump's efforts to piss off everyone he can.  Many here may be ready for Socialism, but America as a whole is decidedly not.  If I were a DNC operative, I would be pimping Mayor Pete like nobodies business, he has the best chance in the general if he could get out of the primary.

Tulsi Gabbard

"I Stand Against Everything She Represents" - Gabbard Hammers Tired, Sick, Fragile Hillary!

Ms Gabbard:
"Great! Thank you @HillaryClinton. You, the queen of warmongers, embodiment of corruption, and personification of the rot that has sickened the Democratic Party for so long, have finally come out from behind the curtain."

These kinds of taxes hit the poorest and those on fixed incomes the hardest, period.

One of the biggest keys to economic prosperity is low energy costs.  Our, the USA's, energy gets cleaner and cleaner by the day.  New technology keeps coming online regularly.  We are just a couple of breakthroughs away to major energy source changes.  Don't bankrupt the country and prevent the development of these potential breakthroughs from happening due to a lack of financial resources that result from counterproductive artificially high energy costs.

Kurtster,

Economists and tax experts have been calling for the weight of taxation to be shifted to consumption away from income and production for a rather long time.

Look around.  US excise taxes on deadly, polluting fossil fuels are the lowest among the rich OECD countries.    The USA is the ONLY rich western country that does not use value-added sales taxes (VAT).

Now look at the socio-economic performance of the 'other' rich OECD countries.   Why is America's performance so poor by comparison?  Why do you have a galloping obesity epidemic?

Why are so many economies with much higher taxes on deadly, polluting fuels performing so well if 'cheap energy' is the key to better outcomes?

Despite Pete's sexual preference?  Just curious.  His 'centrist' position has strong potential appeal for swing voters.

That said, I believe the USA should focus on single payer health care and should increase consumption taxes to finance it.  Starting with excise taxes on dirty fuel which at the federal level have been steadily declining in real terms over the last almost 3 decades.

Moderates and independents are imo usually the most sophisticated voters and have absolutely no consideration for or opinion of sexuality, color of skin and so forth.  That is usually the fodder of staunch liberals and conservatives who are obsessed with identity politics.  If you only watched the media and did not actually spend any time amongst real Americans this is a fact that would surprise most outsiders.

As for the second bolded, that is a losing hand in the general right there.

You may have to clarify that, I am pretty sure grabbing one's ass unless it is playfully grabbing your partner's is not even remotely ok.
