Yeah. We were paying $10k in New Joy Sea and our town was about to be reassessed. We were looking at at least a 50% increase. We cashed out and skedaddled.

Boston and NY are high for property taxes...

It is mostly for the schools...

In New York Metro area, a split ranch might cost 500-600k, and the taxes be 10k per year...

Go figure...

That'd be half of what the taxes are in north Joy Sea.

where you at?

In Boston, the rent on an apartment is about $1500
The cost of the unit is about 300k

The rents are not even close to covering the costs...
And if the tenant skips out, debt death spiral...

The people you're talking about are those poor souls who "overextended" themselves by putting 5% down out of their RRSP or some such nonsense.

And yes, when interest rates go up those are the folks who'll be slapping their properties into the market quicker than you can say double mortgage.

Yep, a big percentage of the USA who have bought in the past 10 years, or took on debt to pay for living expenses (esp due to decreasing job activity)

But there will also be people ready to buy up those properties and turn around and rent them out, because there will be more renters looking for housing within the same market.

I don't think the entire market is going to crash because of this segment of first time buyers who are really not financially ready to be owners and yet have bought anyway.
