Interesting. But why then don't the democrats call his bluff and put it back on the table? Or are they now just as addicted to the distractions?
Don't know, but I do think it's funny that now we hear calls for civility and compromise and let's not be so divided. But that certainly wasn't the rallying cry for the last decade.
I personally don't think the wall is a very effective tool, but I also don't think 5 billion in our budget is worth the effort. I believe what we are seeing is the rational playing out of all the actions this administration has put forth over the last couple of years. I remember him saying "I'll be proud to shut down the government, I'll own it", so I think it is fine that he suffers with the mantle.
Politicians haven't represented most 'regular' people in a long time. Maybe this cluster will bring a few more around. I doubt it, but I can hope.
As proclivities said, hasnt been brought up lately.
So why wasn't it accepted then? As you said, it was a pretty obvious solution, and at the time the Republicans were in nearly complete control with an offer on the table.
And if it wasn't urgent enough then to act, why the sudden urgency now?
Maybe it's not just 'Us/them', 'left/right', maybe it's a convenient distraction from a fundamentally flawed person holding a seat of power (I'd call him a leader, but he does little of that).

what's the difference between this system and theirs?
what does this system recognize or do that theirs does not?
extreme government control manifest in violence/oppression?
restrictions on production/work/opportunities?
does this cause producers, in a sense, both physically and intellectually to seek opportunity elsewhere?
it would seem that the people in charge might take a page or clue from a productivity playbook and implement it
we know for the most part that they're escaping/rejecting top down authority/violence and grinding poverty
so they want the chance to produce and flourish?
why do good ideas apply on one side of an imaginary line (border) and not the other?
does the leadership not see/recognize this? and why not?
is this governmental ignorance or stupidity?
peace
Corruption, poverty, interventions/ obstruction from el Norte.... Lots of reasons, lots of culpability. The result is still that we are a beacon of hope for many reasons, including freedom. Hard to continue to bill yourself as the land of opportunity if you refuse to provide it. On balance, I see us moving more towards the systems they are fleeing than the other way around. Not the model I want to pursue.
Ahem. Screw that. I'm commandeering Dominion. With mega liquors and other sweet provisions.
Your reservation is confirmed: Two seats, plus pets and 'provisions'. We'll pick you up at the dock, 2 hours after the revolution begins. We'll stop in Gibsons to fill out our asylum paperwork, see if we can find some friendlies with government connections.
