Paul McCartney was recorded playing the drums on the song "Dear Prudence" because Ringo had temporarily quit the band... this is such a magnificent song... incredible guitar work...
It's just an indication of how prolific the Beatles were that they first recorded the Harrison song "It's All Too Much" in 1967, actually before the release of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, but it did not thematically match that album, and they had planned to put it on the next release, Magical Mystery Tour, but it was pushed back to Yellow Submarine...
The Beatles song "Flying" from the album Magical Mystery Tour was the first song to be credited as written by all four members of the band... very groovy...
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A new George Harrison documentary featuring home movies, interviews and never before seen material will make its debut in October on HBO, the cable channel said on Wednesday.
Produced by Oscar-winner Martin Scorsese and Harrison's widow Olivia, "George Harrison: Living in the Material World", traces the life of the late Beatle from his musical beginnings in Liverpool to his fame with the Fab Four in the 1960s as well as his work as a philanthropist and filmmaker.
Harrison died of lung cancer in 2001 in Los Angeles at the age of 58. Although often referred to as the quiet Beatle, he wrote hit songs like "Here Comes the Sun" and "Something" for The Beatles before playing with the 1980s supergroup, Traveling Wilburys.
The 3-1/2 hour documentary includes interviews with Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr as well as Eric Clapton, Yoko Ono, Phil Spector and record producer George Martin, among others. It will air in two parts on HBO on October 5 and 6, and be released in Britain on October 10 on DVD and Blu-Ray through Lionsgate, Lionsgate UK said.
Thank you! Yes, this is a great song from a classic album...
I love this song as much every time I hear it... George Harrison employs elemental imagery that makes the lyrics poetically profound... and the music is awesome...
I found this discussion late, but the mention of a Beatles song in Bluegrass sounded like something I had heard before. I've never heard this group before, but I bet there's a better version around somewhere.
Yeah, I'm sure you're right... I vaguely remember the Dillards from the Andy Griffith Show, but I have not heard the Beatles cover that I found listed... that was a good idea for you to look around YouTube... I think the video you found has some excellent musicians on it... the best part of the cover was when they were playing leads, on the violin, the banjo, and the acoustic guitar... I was surprised by how well the guitar player hit notes for the lead... the leads were the best part...
The fiddle, banjo, and acoustic guitar picking are pretty dang cool... that is interesting...

I had older siblings who played their records so I got to hear the great music even though I was a little kid. *my parents were big fans, but we didn't have many albums of theirs until i was old enough to be trusted to walk downtown to the record store. then i got the red and blue albums and then eventually the white albums. as i got older, instead of the compilations i got the actual albums and loved every one of them. i'm still a stones girl at heart, but the beatles were something special and always will be.
"I Will" is another that I think is among his finest.
Do you remember the first Beatles tune you heard and did it make you want to hear more of the band? For me it was "She Loves You" and I,ve loved the music ever since.Played 5-6 of their tunes when I was in a band many years ago.

I could have been mistaken, but I believe I read an interview where McCartney (or Lennon, or George Martin) had mentioned something about that aspect of the song. I think they referred to it as "country & western" though, not "bluegrass".
I just stumbled onto a neat-looking cover... I have a vague memory of The Dillards... don't remember the women listed... I wonder what this sounds like—
