He didn't say it, you interpreted it. If we're at war and he was carrying a rifle (not a typewriter), he almost gets a pass when he says he carried that rifle in war. Should have said wartime

I just think it's funny that you're not spasming over Vance taking this stand. They both served as they were called to do. Vance for 4 years, Walz for 24. Move on.

You have lost all reason.  You support someone whose father paid to have a fake diagnosis to keep him from serving, while wanting to crucify someone who enlisted twice, served over two decades, and used his service weapon as an example in discussing guns.

Nobody has ever met a veteran who didn't overstate their experiences and importance (several family members included).

I try not to, but I'm enthusiastic that way.  I hedge extra on my importance so I can let the memorable experiences fly! I happened to fall through the peace crack of the mid 70's. Now I ask you, what is better than getting blown up or shot at? Probably everything unless you have an ear for it. Oh, wait. I mean, you know, listening, oh nevermind...

Not really the gotcha moment you hope it is. Lots of people take jobs with the provision that they have 6 months or a year or whatever to complete certifications. He was in fact awarded the rank, he just can't retire *as* that rank.

Exactly.

The training required is 750 hours.  It's often done after the promotion.   If he would have done the training and retired, people would be accusing him of doing it for the pension.

The guy retired once, and signed up again after 9/11.  It seems pretty weak to challenge his service record and commitment.  People retire from the  all the time... usually at 20 years because they've max'd out on the benefits.  He was also changing careers, and doing IVF for their second child.

It's ironic that Vance is questioning anyone's service. The guy he's supporting proudly ran from being called to serve, and labeled those who were killed and/or captured losers and suckers.  There is not an ounce of reason or self-reflection in the MAGAverse.

No one gives a f*ck, Beaker.

We do care about Trump's felony conviction, his status as an adjudicated rapist, the numerous indictments and court trials hanging over him, the $500+ million he owes in civil damages, his possible rape of children and his failed attempt to overthrow the US government.

Face it: you're shilling for DonOld. You're on a sinking ship.

“Tweaks”

From the Politico story:

On its website, the Harris campaign axed a reference to Walz as a “retired command sergeant major” and now says that he once served at the command sergeant major rank — a small change that nonetheless reflects his true rank at retirement from the Army National Guard.

. . .

The Minnesota governor did serve as a command sergeant major but was reverted back to the rank of master sergeant when he left the military because he had not completed required coursework for the higher rank with the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy.

. . .

“Walz attained the rank of command sergeant major and served in that role but retired as a master sergeant in 2005 for benefit purposes due to not completing additional coursework,” Army public affairs officer Lt. Col. Kristen Augé said in a previous statement to the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

4 years, mid 70's.
I joined during latter months of Viet Nam, mostly because trouble was on my personal horizon and my buddy got his girl pregnant and needed a job and talked me into coming along.
All great reasons as changing tires was filthy and I was spinning after graduating high school.
I am designated a Nam era vet, but I actually fought in the cold war, which
as a result of hot blood and numerous misadventures, I'm afraid yes, I could run given the current criteria.
I was blessed to having never had to kill anyone, especially myself.
I did have an interesting job, however. I used it to my advantage where I could.
No. Or probably not willingly, but then, our choices are incumbent upon us, and I wouldn't change a thing but for my choices.
But enough about me.

Edit. Yes, blessed. But for sure then, if I had to kill I would have, without hesitating. Thank God for thus far sparing me that dark weight.
I can be another type of soldier now. My duty has changed sponsorship. I don't need weapons of war to displace the evil around me. I need only presence guided by the light of the world. Always on. Always welcoming. Always forward.

But enough about me.

Shout out to old Top! That's what soldiers call a battery or platoon First Sergeant.  I had a couple of doozies along the way.

Master Sergeants are more admin or technically assigned and not in the combat troop ranks, at least in the Army.

"Vance today suggested that Walz is engaging in “stolen valor.” Vance served for 4 years as a Marine, including as a military journalist in Iraq, where he did not experience combat. Walz served in the Army National Guard for 24 years, during which he deployed in response to natural disasters in the United States and served in Europe in support of U.S. operations in Afghanistan."  — Heather Cox Richardson (Professor and Political Historian.)

lol tell me how it's wrong. Tell me how any of this is wrong:
Trump never served. He ran away. He's not ashamed. He gloats about it. He brags about how he used his daddy's privilege and wealth to avoid not only Vietnam, but serving at all. JD Vance, he served. He did what the Marines needed him to do and went where they told him to go. He wasn't any hero, his four years in the Marines are undistinguished, and that's okay. That's okay. Most of us aren't heroes, we're just just people doing the job, we do what they need us to do, we go where they tell us. Doing your duty is enough. Or rather is should be enough. But Vance? Well JD Vance is ASHAMED of his service, of not being a snake eater. Because that's what Republicans turned service into, Hollywood heroism. If you're not a door kicker, if you're not a bearded steely-eyed SEAL, if you're not a raw meat eating Ranger parachuting into danger, you're not a real veteran. That's what Republicans have turned service into. Heroism. And JD Vance, ain't no hero. He was just another Marine. Like millions of others before him. Someone who showed up for four years and did the job he was assigned. No more. No less. And it's just not enough. It's not enough because swaggering wannabe heroes like Trump and Vance turned military service into heroism or nothing. And now they're hoist on their own petard. And MAGAs have no choice but to denigrate Tim Walz's service. Because they can't live up to their own manufactured ideal of what a veteran is. Because they are ashamed of their own ordinary record. And because most of all: they're ashamed Trump himself ran away when called.
