But JaâMal Green, a Chicago-based activist, said there was no comparison between the tactics or the response. âWe all know if Black Lives Matter would have stormed the Capitol, there would have been deadly force used to protect that building, especially because itâs a federal building,â he said. âWe today saw what it means for white people to have the privilege.â
Imagine how many of these people would be dead already if they weren't white.
sorry. that's a pretty foolish comment. rebuking the police for doing the right thing. the point you are trying to make isn't appropriate at this time.
It's not foolish, it's fact. What right thing? The police escorting them safely out the door (holding their hands to steady them lest they slip on the steps) in time for the early bird dinner at Applebee's and not arresting them? That right thing?
No, not shooting people (at the time I wasn't aware of the shooting). The bigger point is that comparing today with blm protests will only foster divisiveness, encourage people taking sides. Whataboutism and all that nonsense. I think today's events should stand on their own, so the insanity of it all is not downplayed. There's no point in comparing the two, whether to support or condemn.
The comparison is part of the insanity. The kid glove handling. The lightweight response. The LETTING THEM THORUGH THE GATES. Instead of forcefully holding the perimeter of the CAPITAL OF THE UNITED STATES, they let a group of hoodlums and 'thugs' (maybe deplorables is also appropriate here) into a space they should never have reached. And the authorities used far less force than they did when confronting protesters from the other side. Why such a disparate response? And why do we know the names, ages and hometowns of several of these people, and yet they are still walking free? When the BLM protesters had the audacity to show up wearing black clothing, they were detained by a private, unmarked security force.
This is exactly the double standard the BLM group was/is protesting. And the fear of having to treat others as equals is what drove these privileged idiots to their rage. So yeah. It's appropriate to talk about, but yes also in the context of "WHY AREN'T THESE FUCKTARDS UNDER ARREST" (with boot prints on their necks)?
I saw restraint on the part of police with blm. The issues they were fighting for can stand on their own...but again, there's no point in going there. today was not about racism, blm...but abuse of the presidency. I don't disagree with many of your points. I just don't think they are particularly useful in discussing today's events. Perhaps in time, when we are able to digest the madness of the trump presidency, the time will come.

That is why "your side" is in quotations. I already know that you are of the Green Party. Regardless, you are on another side as it were.
I do believe that you supported Biden in this election, IIRC. Whatever, neither here nor there.
And to the others regarding the NG, I was under the impression that the Mayor of DC is the one who called up the NG in the first place and that they were operating under the Mayor's jurisdiction and control. Evidently this is not correct ?
That is incorrect. The mayor requested the national guard, who in DC are under DoD. trump denied the request but reports say Pence granted it later. Capitol police are also not under the mayor, obviously.
I'm of the opinion that the powers that be let it happen.
Who exactly, for the next few days, is the Powers That Be?
That would be the people commanding these security forces in this case and their superiors. . Steely_D wrote:

Pfft. The Green Party doesn't even have enough members to have a game of bridge. Wasn't anything my party did.

I'm of the opinion that the powers that be let it happen. Why wasn't the NG deployed at the Capitol prior to this event when it was well known that the protesters were headed that way ? None of this would have even gotten to the steps of The Capitol building if they had been there, as they should have been. Instead, they were somewhere else picking their noses waiting for what ?
The deceased was shot by the police according to reports that I have seen. Haven't heard of anyone else doing any shooting yet.
That's an easy one. trump refused to deploy them earlier. They were deployed by Pence, which is an interesting development.
For that matter, why were the capitol police out there with bicycle helmets and no riot gear. Why is there video of the cops apparently letting protesters insurgents through the "barricades" and taking selfies with the insurgents inside federal buildings? This was a coup attempt lead by trump.

So are you agreeing with what happened today? You're trying to distract by bringing up something else but let's keep things simple. Was today's violent terrorism, including someone shot and killed, something that should've happened?
