I just back scrolled through the thread to this original post. I agree with your take and assessment of the ways things went yesterday. Somewhere, yesterday I also mentioned that the protesters apparently were allowed in to the Capitol and was immediately told I was full of shit, to be blunt.
Indeed, an event manipulated to put an oak stake through Trump's political heart. There are professionals at work here (trump) who know how to work crowds and take advantage of opportunities provided by crowds. This has been going on since the 60's by my own first hand knowledge.
Did they succeed ? I dunno, time will tell. Will we have a thorough investigation into how this security failure happened ? A dog and pony show at best. The usual poor decision making based upon innocent incompetence will be the findings and recommendations to make sure it will never happen again. And then do nothing. Rinse and repeat, as usual.
Sigh ...
Well then trump shouldn't have been inciting the event, eh? He should have conceded. He and his appointees shouldn't have blocked requests for the national guard. I agree that some capitol police helped the insurgents. Some were also hung out to dry by the administration who put them out to do crowd control of armed invaders while wearing bicycle helmets. One of them paid with their life in the line of duty. trump did this to himself. The report of the guard's death has been retracted. Thanks. (updated after his death was announced)

sirdroseph wrote:Wow, I have to spell it out for you. This poorly planned and thought out event was a golden opportunity for Congress and the alphabet agencies to orchestrate and allow operatives and true protesters to waltz into places that they could have easily prevented them from doing so creating the environment to get Trump to finally concede and remove his power and influence to facilitate an orderly transition of power and silence Trump once and for all. These are the same tactics used in the BLM protest when operatives, some police, some FBI and some Antifa were caught on film perpetuating the violence and even providing cases of bricks strategically placed in hot spot locations. They were successful. I cannot believe you would be so naive to think that protestors could just waltz into the capitol so easily without inside assistance and coordination. Quite frankly I cannot believe I am having to spell this out for you and I have nothing more to say about it. You believe what you like, neither of us have any power to do anything about it anyway. They were let in by sympathetic police to protest the steal. Or. Or the police reacted like police did to violent protests in Portland and other places in order to minimize blood shed. Recall the calls by the President and others for the guard and army to intervene and knock heads?

With the country still reeling from Wednesday's violence in Washington, serious questions are now being asked about how such a massive security breach was able to happen at the heart of US government. Many consider it incomprehensible that thousands of pro-Trump supporters were able to force their way inside one of the country's most historically and politically significant buildings at a time when elected lawmakers were inside moving to certify Joe Biden's election victory. Photographs and footage showed the extent to which the mob were able to roam around inside. Scores of Trump supporters were seen taking photographs and live-streaming their actions - with many looting and vandalising symbols of US democracy as they went. As the events unfolded live online and on news networks across the world, many questioned the preparedness and response of the US Capitol Police - a force of about 2,000 officers whose job it is to protect the building and its grounds. https://www.bbc.com/news/world...

I appreciate some of the comments, including the ones noticing 1) they had already erected barricades and she was going through them 2) the person firing the shot didn't unleash a half dozen into the crowd but a single one at a proper angle. This seems kinda heartless, but also underscores the training of the person defending our Congresspeople from a violent, armed mob. My thoughts as well. This was not a 'First Amendment in the public square' situation like Seattle or Portland. This was 'I protect members of Congress by any means necessary'. Sucks he had to go that far, but they/she left him little choice. The nut jobs might make her a martyr. c.
