All over Europe, countries are dropping Covid vaccination passports only months after introducing them. Since Friday, Italy and Greece have become the latest nations to say they will dump passport requirements as of May 1.
Both countries made the usual noises about no longer needing rules because Covid is so under control. âWe are of course keeping a very close watch on the epidemic curve,â Italyâs prime minister said.
Yes, watching the number of new infections almost double in the last two weeks!
Viewed over the longer term, the picture is even worse. When Italy introduced its vaccine passport last September, it had roughly 4,000 infections a day. When it tightened restrictions in December, it had under 15,000.
Now it has 70,000 a day.
I cannot say this enough times: Covid vaccine restrictions are ending not because the mRNA vaccines have succeeded but because they have failed.
The depth of that failure is so complete that to explain it sounds almost conspiratorial. The mRNA vaccines do not just not work against Omicron, they have negative efficacy, which is why the most highly vaccinated countries in the world now have levels of infection far higher than they had last year or in 2020 - and far higher than countries that did not use the mRNA vaccines.
Hereâs Austria, which in January became the first country in Europe to announce not just a vaccine passport but a Covid vaccine mandate. Austria now has more coronavirus infections than the United States - with a population 1/35th as large.

There is another important element in the national vaccine program, which is the requirement to keep the vaccine production facilities up and running. These facilities are producing a biological product; they must be kept in production or the process for re-licensure is onerous, if not impossible. In the case of seasonal flu, one of the justifications for the yearly vaccine is to keep the manufacturing plants running and ready for business in case of a truly severe strain of flu or some other, unknown pathogen become a threat. If those facilities are moth-balled, they canât be brought back on line quickly. Bet you did not know that. One major reason for pushing annual influenza vaccines is to maintain influenza vaccine manufacturing capacity. The industry term used is âwarm base manufacturingâ. Of course, this results in a very nice annual âcash cowâ for the vaccine industry, one which gets annually milked for a tidy guaranteed profit. The term ârent seeking behaviorâ applies. The same is true of the various âbiodefenseâ vaccines and products which are maintained in the âstrategic national stockpileâ. In the context of Smallpox, these include ACAM2000. These products have half lives, which is to say that even though they are (hopefully) not used, they still have to be replaced every few years. Again, nice predictable profit. The corporation âEmergent Biololutionsâ has become particularly adept at exploiting this âmarket opportunityâ, and has managed to monopolize many of the biodefense-related vaccines and products which the US Government purchases for the Strategic National Stockpile, including ACAM2000.
So, there is more than one reason to vaccinate the entire population on a regular basis, and the government basically props up the entire vaccine industry with what are functionally major annual subsidies. Once a policy decision is made to acquire a vaccine product or establish a âstandard of careâ involving a vaccine, it is never re-evaluated. Any politician or government administrator that even considers rethinking whether a vaccine policy makes good sense is confronted by the specter of being blamed for any outbreak or cases of that disease that may arise - regardless of how (in)effective or risky that vaccine product may be. So, a combination of public policy realities and regulatory barriers to entry (very, very difficult and expensive to demonstrate improved effectiveness or safety for an improved vaccine when there is already an accepted vaccine on the market) make the vaccine business particularly lucrative and predictable for the large manufacturers that produce licensed vaccines.

I would not mind changing jobs and everyone wants injections. For a 2019 virus. Multiple injections, anytime they say it then will need to get yet another.
