The president’s language of wartime unity is a veil draped over a federal response that offers little more than contempt for those whose lives are at risk. To this administration, they are simply fuel to keep the glorious Trump economy burning.

Fight Over Virus’s Death Toll Opens Grim New Front in Election Battle
Elements of the right have sought to bolster President Trump’s political standing by turning scientific questions into political issues.
Since the outset of the crisis, elements of the right have sought to bolster the president’s political standing and justify reopening the economy by questioning the death toll. Climate-change skeptics have employed techniques perfected in the fight over global warming to raise doubts about the deadliness of the virus. Others, including Mr. Trump’s media allies as well as some in the anti-vaccine movement, have repurposed fringe theories about “deep state” bureaucrats undermining the president to argue that the official numbers should not be trusted.

They have a found a receptive audience, and a booster of their ideas, in Mr. Trump himself. For the president, the death toll has become a pivotal political indicator, as important to his re-election prospects as his approval ratings and his standing against former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. in swing-state polls.

A lot to take in here but the gist is basically don't go to indoor restaurants, 6 ft apart or not.

It seems many people are breathing some relief, and I’m not sure why. An epidemic curve has a relatively predictable upslope and once the peak is reached, the back slope is also predictable. Assuming we have just crested in deaths at 70k, that would mean that if we stay locked down, we lose another 70,000 people over the next 6 weeks as we come off that peak. That's what's going to happen with a lockdown.

Cuts down on non-Halal orders for a while... "look mommy..."

There are a lot of "legacy" practices that were logical/intelligent in the past (pre-refrigeration) that no longer make a lot of sense.

I'm sure there are people in China without refrigeration, but I doubt they are buying up fresh meat.  Since I can literally sit in the US and place an order for groceries to be delivered in China (in English), maybe the time has come for the markets to go away?

If you're worried about cleaning...order some Clorox, "Imported" from the US!

"If you're worried about cleaning...order some Clorox, "Imported" from the US!"

Sure, for cleaning...or injecting it into yourself for that Trump-fresh feeling!

Well, like the Kosher certification, they need to just authorize someone to oversee the Halal. I think it's already allowed, but there's always a faction that wants organic...

Yeah, I can't imagine most Health Departments can allow that, religious exemption or not. I would think a group that devout would keep a private facility. Hunters typically dress out their kills at home, for example. I respect the ritual, my understanding is it's intended to respect the animal and its sacrifice. I just don't think a health inspector could look the other way.
