i'm using tune in (very easy setup)

i don't think that the product is a stand alone bluetooth speaker

maybe some geek can shine some light on that

Perhaps I was a bit hasty in my previous post. The roadblock thrown up by my very-common type of Gmail account just seemed so ridiculous & unnecessary.

RP via TuneIn is now working correctly ("Hey Google, play Radio Paradise on TuneIn"). My opinion of the relative audio quality of the two units still stands, though.

I wasn't aware that Sonos was working on a Google-equipped model. I hope their implementation of that is better than their implementation of Alexa (google "Alexa on Sonos" and look for the user reviews/responses).

i can relate to your frustration with these roadblocks

this is how and why i purchased my first mac

i had a "windows meltdown" and finally i just got into my car and drove straight to the local apple store   {#Lol}

apple products are high quality and they just work, and that makes for a great customer experience

i haven't read any reviews of alexa on sonos

clearly this is something i need to look into

i just assumed that it was the same or similar "setup" on the amazon rig stacked on top of a high quality speaker

that's a concern for me if i can't get the same functionality with that tech paired with vendors like sonos

i've had both echo and google home

and i've given at least five of each as gifts (plus a lot of chromecasts)

never had a problem with setup with either one

i paid about $179 for my first echo and $129 for my first ghome

the echo did sound better but for me the ghome is much at any work related questions

i did the pepsi challenge with both and a string of questions and goog's ai was better

just my experience

if i could get the better brains on a great speaker setup i bite

so i'm waiting on the new sonos spearker with g assistant built in to give that a try

OK.

Total time to set up Echo:  5 easy minutes.
To set up Home: 1 long, frustrating hour.

Plus, it won't even play RP via TuneIn (which Echo does right out of the box). "Play Radio Paradise on TuneIn" (which works on Echo) gives me some crappy Italian station on Home.

And it sounds awful. Echo is not a HiFi device, but the audio quality is surprisingly listenable. Home sounds like a $10 bluetooth speaker from a truck stop.

Fail.

So you're saying you're not yet sure about how good it is ?

We're developing an app for Google Home (hopefully, anyway — you have to ask them really, really nicely and then wait weeks for them to tell you if they'll allow your proposed app), so I bought one.

Amazingly enough, Google won't let me even activate the unit while I'm signed in to my G-Suite user account (my radioparadise.com address, which is managed by Google G-Suite, aka Google Apps). I don't know how many millions of people use those accounts — worldwide probably something roughly equal to the population of the US.

Is that crazy or what? I'm in the subset of Gmail users who actually pays for the service, and they block me from using their heavily-promoted new gizmo. That would be like trying to set up an Echo and being told "Sorry, this device won't work because you're subscribed to Amazon Prime".

Sheesh. Sometimes Google can be so amazingly clueless.

For the unit to work, I have to sign out of my account on my phone & sign in using a personal Gmail address. I will NOT do that, so I'm going to fire up an old phone & set it up on my personal account, which I don't even remember the password for. Thanks, Google.
