Probably not a huge deal for that but pro tip: Tape over the outlet with the voltage you aren't going to use. Did you know Kitchen Aide blenders have live stuff inside when the switch is off? Do you know what happens when you plug a 110 V one into the 240 V outlet on the converter/regulator?
ETA: also consider whether you want to leave the converter on continuously or are going to switch it on each time. If I understand correctly, it changes the design.
How about jumping a 6volt VW bus with a 12volt car ? does that count ? No regulators available. Gonna switch it on and off.

Its up and running and the sound has gone up another level immediately. So much that I'm starting all over again with the ripping. For the last time, this time. My old SL 1700 was pretty good all in all, but jeez, its a toy compared to this. So up on the shelf it goes with the spare Dual 504.
Back to ripping and some pics soon.

For now I'm happy with my equipment but definitely plan to layout some hard earned $$$ on something better down the road so I can really get the best out of my listening experience. I may even give my hand a try at another conversion toy so I have more tunes to use in my mixed tape world. If only they would come up with a turntable for the car that doesn't skip So sorry. I may even give my hand a try at another conversion toy so I have more tunes to use in my mixed tape world. If only they would come up with a turntable for the car that doesn't skip Thanks. Yep, the buckies. Well, if you know you're gonna do it, then figure out what you need and slowly acquire it and before you know it, you're there. Sorta how I did it. I will say that I got really lucky with the AT15ss that I bought. It was virtually unused as stated. Worth every penny. The cart is the most important piece in the chain. This is what I was going to buy if I couldn't score the AT. Highly regarded and I have bought stuff from these guys. The shibata stylus is key. Won't use anything else. And don't forget to get one of these overhang gauges. Best and simplest set up tool, especially for S style tonearms. Then get a good turntable. Like I mentioned below, I'm after a Techniques SL 1200. $300 to $1000 used, but easy to find. But, they are built like the brick shit house and do not loose their value. They will pretty much always be worth what you paid for it. The Audio Technica may look just like it, but its not even close. Forget the built in USB turntables. Pretty much toys imo and you're stuck with whatever the onboard DAC is. Start with this though. The least expensive piece and very critical. I recommend the ART USB phono preamp. More detailed info here. My work horse for 10 years. Gonna buy the new one just because, it might be time. The DAC is 16 bit 41,000 khz which is standard CD. You can plug anything that has RCA connectors in it and it is bi directional, so you can use it for playback or headphones if you like. Good to use if your receiver doesn't have a phono input as well. Bus powered so ground loops don't exist at all. That is a big problem with turntables to computer hook ups. I don't know about the software currently offered, but Audacity is great and free. The ART works with virtually any recording software. So get it and play with it, get familiar with it. One warning though. I strongly suggest making a separate user on your computer just for this purpose. For some reason, it messes with the soundcard in that it can change settings and be very frustrating until you get to know the work arounds and fixes. The settings changes seem to stay isolated on the one user more often than not. That's the reason for a separate user. And go for it. No different from using your LP as a master for a cassette like back in the day. Play your rip instead of the vinyl and keep it nice for future uses.

Yes, my fellow RPMCC members, y'all have suffered through the evolution of my remastering and ripping. I think I have finally figured things out for the most part. I think I finally know what I'm doing and getting it rather than going through a process and hoping it works out. And I'm getting more conservative in the way I do it. Getting back into vinyl with the record cleaning machine and finally getting my dream cartridge, two new original AT 20N styluses for backup, and a decent chain between the turntable to puter, I'm hearing stuff with such clarity and the music is sounding new again. Way back when I first started playing with music and my first trip to Portland to meet hippie and being taught how to do this stuff, the goal was to just to clean things up and get digital to sound analogue. Now with the vinyl food chain solidly in place and 8 years of practice, I am reminded of just how good vinyl sounds and why it is different and the direction that my remastering should go or what it should sound like in the end. On the last mixtape, perhaps the track I'm proudest of is the Canned Heat track. It has life again rather than just a stale, dry, been there, done that song. That said, one of the things I think that I now believe is why so many will argue that vinyl is better than digital is because why it sounds different. Cuz it definitely does, because it is different just because of the way it is mastered. I can only speak of vinyl made up to the 90's, but going back to the 60's, everything was made to sound its best on vinyl and everyone had to find ways of adjusting their ears and equipment to make it sound good, to the plugged in listener. Broadcasting has its sweetening as everyone knows, hardly anyone listened to anything 'flat', that is with no EQ. Now I listen to everything flat and its my yardstick to begin with. So with CD's nobody knew how to master for them and the early stuff was basically a straight copy from the artist's masters. That's great and all, but mastering for vinyl is a very active process that requires respecting the medium and making adjusts on the fly while cutting lacquers. One of the fruits of my visit to who I consider to be a new friend and enabler at the record store I visited yesterday was that he is so deep into vinyl that he knows who mastered which vinyl and which pressings of the same album. Me, I always stoked when I opened a record and found STERLING stamped on the runout. You just knew it was gonna be good. But I more paid attention to who the engineers were, like Bruce Botnick, who was behind The Doors. So to get to the point, everyone was just into frequency response and didn't pay enough attention to what vinyl really sounded like. Which is actually good sitting here from my point of view, cuz it likes working with the tape masters before anyone started playing with the sound as digital tools became available. I want the early unremastered CD's because of that if I'm going to actually buy one. With that thinking I put out the conclusion I came up with a couple of months ago cuz of what I have been doing and listening to, that the industry should have made the highest quality vinyl pressing and recorded it for the CD master. I say that because my vinyl rips sound like vinyl, not something digital. So its not because something is digital, its still what is the source of the digital recording. My new friend agreed at hello. So with all this, I'm starting over and gonna redo a lot of the 500 + songs I've already done and focus on the vinyl if I have a good piece to work with versus my CD copy. I'll have to send you a file update soon I'm so stoked about what is unfolding that I'm putting my ripping on hold until I get a new scrubbing brush that he turned me onto gets here from England (and I went through RP to get there) and I find a way to get that Techniques 1200 from him. That and trying to market the eyecleaner. Eventually I'll somehow share some of the 'results' that I used to share in the journals. But to keep it to a dull roar and off the radar, I'll keep the links private and available by pm. They will be wav files and its up to everyone to figure out what to do with them on their own. I think ...
