Never mind that Adelaide is an Australian Rules Football town. Their team is the Crows so I suppose an ibis would be a good match for rugby. Rugby League, not Rugby Union, of course.

Victoria's Premier Daniel Andrews says the state's lockdown will lift at 11:59pm on Thursday, when 70 per cent of eligible adults are expected to be fully vaccinated.

No Melbourne is not a ghost town in spite of what carefully edited videos indicate. But people are pretty giddy with excitement about getting through the lockdowns (that got things back very close to normal with 0 cases in the country until New South Wales stuffed it up letting delta get established). So we roll with it and adjust the strategy. Reached 70% fully vaxed yesterday with an estimate of 80% by November 4. Unfortunately case numbers are growing where I live because of fuckwits.
US Covid deaths:              728,000 - 222/100K population
Australia Covid deaths:       1,579 -     6/100K population

I've been receiving my regular fortnightly airmail parcels of watch parts from the UK.
Usually takes about 10 TO 14 days , the longest delay in the journey being the clearance thru the new customs center in Sydney and then on to Perth, W.A. by road.
But have had two parcels take many weeks to arrive .One was sent to Austria and not to Australia and another ended up being tracked to N.Z. Why ? who knows.
Both returned to UK sender marked 'FAILED to DELIVER'

Parcel and packet services to Australia and New Zealand temporarily suspended
Red alert: Canada Post is not accepting mail and parcels for these destinations due to a temporary service disruption.
Date posted: October 06, 2021

Effective immediately, parcel and packet services transported by air to Australia and New Zealand are suspended until further notice. Border closures to combat the Covid-19 pandemic have severely restricted flight capacity to Australia and New Zealand. As a result, the following services are suspended:

XpresspostTM–International

Tracked PacketTM–International

Small Packet–International Air.

Canada Post will continue to accept and deliver to these destinations using the following surface services. Surface delivery may take up to twelve (12) weeks:

International Parcel–Surface

Small Packet–International Surface

That's interesting because I don't think the rules for air transport into Australia have changed in the last year. As I noted in a previous post, there has been a large backlog in deliveries within Australia, to the point where they suspended accepting parcels within the country for a week to clear the backlog.

It seems there were issues in Sydney due to their lockdowns that have just been lifted. It's hard to tell because the federal government is pretty secretive when it comes to bad news but there may have been flight restrictions that are flying under the radar, so to speak, because delta got into the country via an infected air crew. But currently they are saying that all restrictions will be removed by around Christmas, although the federal government can't seem to get their act together to plan the implementation.

Speaking of which I hear that you are going to be opening your borders soon.

I feel a need to speak up to do the little I can to counteract that.

The strange thing is that one could argue that this is a great leap forward in breaking down the iron curtain around our border. See, no police state if you just keep citizens from returning. Problem solved as far as our right-wing prime minister was concerned. The man who refused to fund quarantine facilities so that the few people who could fly in would be able to move around a bit, get some fresh air, not be stuck in a single room for 2 weeks, and not catch covid from the crappy ventilation system in a hotel that isn't fit for purpose. You know like the successful one in your previous video.

So sure, any reasonable solution is going to upset some people. Imagine getting to stay at home for the minor inconvenience of getting phone calls now and then and sending a photo. Truly a first world problem. But you all keep on taking off your shoes to get on an airplane

There was a one week suspension of accepting parcels while they caught up with the backlog in delivery (or should that be backlogue, I can never tell when it is creeping Americanism or that I just don't know how to spell).

This was primarily due to the delta outbreak in Sydney. During that week a parcel that had left China about a month and a half before was delivered to me so I say it was a success.

With hindsight, they probably should have just gone back to shipping by slow boat, saving time and CO2 emissions.

p.s. Thanks DeJoy, not content with fucking up U.S. mail delivery, eh?
