A small town news headline if ever there was one.

I don't know why they needed Search and Rescue because the local State Emergency Service has chain saws.

He's an evangelical leading what is one of the least religious countries in the world. He doesn't keep religion separate from his politics, he just keeps morality separate from politics. The thing that amazes me is how utterly tone-deaf he is. A bit over a year ago, when eastern Australia was burning up, he snuck off on a holiday to Hawaii and tried to have his office cover up that he went. I mean, if he thought it was ok to take off why did he hide it? Then, he justified it by saying, "I don't hold the hose, mate."

With the sex scandals, he keeps saying the wrong thing and apparently will support toxic men, even if it means damaging his party. He has no backbone and is too simple even to be politically calculating.

There is so much shit flying around the place at the moment at the federal level that some of it will have to stick sooner or later, longer it goes the hotter things will get.
And with all the ducking and weaving taking place  the C19 vaccine roll out to the states is starting to get the wobbles.

Facebook unrepentant as Prime Minister dubs emergency services block 'arrogant'

Facebook is in a stoush with the federal government over a law saying they have to pay for links to news media (Rupert Murdoch seems to be behind the law). So they blocked all news site pages and any links to news articles that anyone posts. That includes foreign newspapers. For a while they were blocking all the satirical news sites like the Chaser and the Betoota Advocate. Apparently they, and emergency services sites are slowly coming back. FB says blocking the emergency sites was inadvertent, but I think it was a way to get attention.

Google is in the same situation and it will be a pain if you can't search for sites and have to go back to guessing urls. The whole federal policy doesn't look very thought out but other countries are looking closely to see if they can try to squeeze the internet giants, too.

I mean, I do use facebook friends to curate news for me but I suppose this will make it faster to catch up on what friends around the world are doing.

Snorkeling it up doesn't seem like it would be very effective or efficient. I think it's mostly buckets on helicopters here, although we had a fire where they brought in some Bombardier planes that scoop the water up on the fly and those things were cool.

Perth city went into 5 days lockdown after a SOLITARY case of C19 appeared, the first in over 10 months and shutting down a city of 2 million. Expecting the all clear as of 18.00 hrs today.
I have escaped  any restrictions as we live on the edge of the city, business as usual but we are being threatened by the mega blaze burning just 20kms to the south of us.
To complicate matters there is a decaying tropical low weather system bearing down on us. It's expected to hit the fire zone midday tomorrow, but the already screaming winds are going to intensify prior to the change with 40 plus mm of rain. Probably enough to snuff the fire out hopefully .

Incidentally  just recently had a very special release Fremantle made beer, twas truly superb but at $17  a can I won't be racing out for another six pack too soon.

Imagine if he'd lost a chocolate bar!

The court heard that on Monday night Mr Wittmann allegedly went to the Lost Dogs' Home where his cat was being held, after being told he could pick it up the following day.
Detective Senior Constable Jo MacDonald told the magistrate Mr Wittmann, who served in the Australian Army before being discharged for failing to render efficient service, was dressed in military-style clothing and was armed with an assault rifle.

"On this occasion, he's acted to get back possession of a cat, which he was only going to be without for possibly 10 hours," she told the court.

The father of three is accused of pointing the rifle at a young ranger in the shelter's car park, who later described the gun as "something a SWAT team in the movies would use".

How do you go from "being discharged for failing to render efficient service" to storming an animal shelter commando style?  I guess it never occurred to this genius that he won't be able to see Puss or his kids in prison. (Kids undoubtedly are rejoicing...)

Really, what would you do for one?

Well it is Australia so the sentence probably won't be as long as it would be in USA.

And it is sad that there probably are untreated mental health issues.
