It is a grass, so generally safe. But the leaves are rough, I read somewhere they can cause irritation and minor bleeding. But otherwise it's not harmful.

Maybe just needed a little 'cleanse'.

Maggie came up the hallway to where I am sitting a few minutes ago.  She had something hanging out of her rear end.  I cleaned it off, and it looks like bamboo leaves. Yep. I have a hard time calling the good ones pets.Parakeets are pets, hamsters are pets, but a good dog or cat is really a family member.

Yeah, they can be a bit of an obligation. We decided some time ago that we didn't need any more kids or animals. Then we inherited a grandson who is still a work in progress. {#Doh}

But I love labs. A young couple, Barbara and Steve, moved next door to us about 27 years ago - no kids, but a black lab named Holly, a really sweet lady. About a year later, Barb called us late one night to tell us they were going to the hospital because the baby was on it's way. After they left, Holly started howling mournfully, feeling that something was wrong. The next day they brought home baby Thomas, who was immediately adopted as her own by Holly. I remember seeing Thomas toddling through their front yard and Holly getting between Thomas and the street and nudging him gently back toward the house.

Dogs are proving to be more in tune to human communication than any other animal, but how much they really understand about people’s intentions is up for debate.

It would be interesting to know whether wolves can point (although they too have continued evolving, like the other apes that split off from our part of the evolutionary tree millions of years ago).

PS:

Trainability

Dogs display much greater tractability than tame wolves, and are, in general, much more responsive to coercive techniques involving fear, aversive stimuli, and force than wolves, which are most responsive toward positive conditioning and rewards.<199> Unlike tame wolves, dogs tend to respond more to voice than hand signals.<200>
