I never claimed to understand women. I understand the complexities of hormones and b/c pills.

I made a comment to Rod about Walmart. I got a lecture from Izzy on hormones. I don't need a lecture on hormones or b/c. Your comment seemed like piling on.

My response was to Rod because he mentioned Walmart specifically. While checking my facts before posting, I read a blog by a woman doctor that said that for MOST women, MOST of the time, the 2 pills offered would work. I do have an understanding of the complexities of women. I have lived with them for about 51 of the last 54 years.

Birth Control Pills are a mix of different compounds of hormones. Hormones have a tremendously powerful effect all parts of the human body. Some women have more levels of testosterone or estrogen — thus creating imbalances that can create havoc and dangerous conditions for the body. One Blend of hormones for one woman may not be a wise blend for another. These are POWERFUL substances and therefore need a Doc/Gyn's supervision and annual exams that costs money. There is no such thing as a One-Size-Fits-All Hormone regimen for women!

meower wrote:Exactly it's not like viagra. Yes! Viagra works on blood flow, whereas hormones are trying to convince the female body it is pregnant and therefore won't release an ovum. To make the body believe its in a certain condition to prevent a natural function takes a very powerful and complex hormonal cocktail - taken daily - that each women responds to differently. Like Pregnancy, every woman is a bit different. I am stunned at how many men are clueless about the complexity of a method of contraception that women often take for up to 20-30 years or more. And throughout a woman's lifetime, her body hormones change, therefore the right 'cocktail blend' has to change. Thats where the doctor comes in, to evaluate how her body is reacting to them. The wrong amounts of hormones can cause cellular changes, like cancer, particularly of the cervix. Not all Hormones are for Birth Control, as I am on hormone replacement therapy after menopause to reduce high blood pressure or further bone loss. These ARE not $9 at Walmart, but cost me $ 150 EACH MONTH out of pocket. Not all of women's health issues are about Contraception.

There is no such thing as a One-Size-Fits-All Hormone regimen for women! He didn't say "no prescription needed" or that there was only one type of generic bc pill available. There are generics for a lot of name brand bc pills. He's just saying that they're available there for $9 so if your doc prescribes you Ortho Novum, for example, if Walmart carries the generic for that, you can get it for $9 without insurance. If your doc prescribes you Loestrin, you can get the generic for that for $9, etc., etc.

Zep wrote:Please give it a rest, ok? I'm not much of a fan of the GOP, but what I like much less is all the garbage you're posting just because you hate or fear the GOP.
You really have posted nothing of value regarding your political beliefs or the GOP's character other than to say you hate the party and they are going to enslave us all.
Basically, you're just using these pages to vent your hatred and dump your spew, and it got old years ago. It's really time to give it a rest. It's time to stop treating RP as a toxic waste dump.
Can we just leave it as you don't like the GOP? Do you really have to keep posting garbage? Links from wherever?
At his worst, Beaker (bless him) would post links without commentary and then quibble with anyone who would respond to them. Your behavior is no different; you just occupy a different frequency on the political spectrum.
This post does not merit a response that is politically based. This is not a political argument. This is an argument from a community-standards point of view. Any response that goes back to the GOP will be ignored, followed by another plea similar to this one.
So, I am begging you - please stop.
Amen! No better way to say it.

When I saw this thread pop up and clicked in before anyone had responded and saw the opening statement and author, I saw a thread started as nothing more than a place to bash partisans. The title is partisan. The title is a talking point designed to divide, not join or bring people together or foster conversation towards those ends.
Any attempts at something different other than agreeing with the openning statement were doomed from the beginning.
Glad I kept my nose out of here upon backscrolling since my first look yesterday morning.

Rod wrote:For what it's worth (and I know that ain't much) and to get back on topic, I do believe for lack of a better term, there is a war on women. Why are old white men the ones making the rules when it comes to women's reproductive rights? You can damn well bet if men were the ones who got pregnant, Walmart would have specials like "Abortion Fridays" and it would all be paid for, no probes, no questions asked. Of course, all birth control would be covered by insurance too. I mean, it's 2012 and women are still not getting equal pay for equal work. Who's calling the shots? We all know that answer.
Walmart offers generic birth control pills for $9. no insurance needed.
