I think I have used this parable before:
A big dog walks up to a man on a bench.
If the man likes dogs, he will pet it and be friendly.
If he is indifferent, he will ignore the dog.
If he is afraid, he'll run.
His reaction has nothing to do with the dog, but instead, his feelings about dogs.
Give this some thought.
Uhm. Thanks?

Sorry to butt in here but you have by your own free will entered into a forum named 'Iran' I think the title alone is a good indicator of what kind of discussion is going on. You personally think that Nugglers post may have been over the top but when recent events in South Ossetia and America trying to keep outing Iran about their Nuclear capabilities It's always a strong possibility that Nuclear and War are going to be mentioned. I'm not having a go at you, i'm just saying that if you want RP to be a place to escape from all this stuff then perhaps stick to the forums which are lighthearted. Some people and myself being one of them, actually enjoy this kind of forum and discussion. Different strokes for different folks i guess?

IMO, it was a legitimate post for a scary, important subject. I have had similar feelings myself. Your response was most likely due to a feeling that the post brought up for you, but it's not fair to blame Nuggler for your response. We all have the opportunity and choice to react or not.
Please understand, I am not invalidating your feelings. The news continues to get worse and worse, and we are all frustrated, if not scared, at the world events. But don't shoot the messenger, or tell him that his thoughts, feelings and concerns do not have the right to be addressed.
I will tell you the same thing that everyone keeps telling me: If you don't like it, walk away from it.

I'm tired of seeing the doom and gloom in the world all over the news sites, hearing it being talked about at the water cooler, experiencing it in the frustration that people have when it comes to dealing with each other on the road and out in public. It's everywhere. Now, people like you bring it here - the one place I can come to and talk to diverse people about an array of subjects that could possibly cultivate into friendships and relationships with people that are also looking to relax their guard for awhile and enjoy cool tunes, promote laughter and salve the wounds that everyday stark, raving fear inflicts upon us all. But no. You fucking brainiacs have to speculate about the third world war, what's credible and what isn't regarding EVERYTHING and a lot of people around here are SICK TO DEATH of it.
And if you've looked at any of my journals (that I now realize were a mistake to post here) you think you have any inkling about who I am, you'll recognize that I'm not some goddamned 24/7 good-timer. I'm trying to heal like everyone else that's ever seen violence on a first-hand basis and tried to sleep at night without nightmares about it a decade later. I live in a state of panic because I see the same thing you do happening and there's NOTHING I can do to change it. I'll stick to reading the journals, as a good friend suggested and stay out of these forums whether I have questions about anything political or not.
(Deleted the last line because it was hateful and served no good purpose)
politics aside, please don't stop posting here or in the journals. i've enjoyed your journals and can relate to a lot of what you're going through; i think quite a few others here can, too.

Unless Dr. Strangelove's son has his way: Putin gets to have his own version of Iraq... At least there's an upside to this! A Russia that's as militarily neutered as the US' is becoming is a reassuring thought, as long as Putin and his ilk are in control. (And, yes, I know you're talking about Iran, but it is only a piece in a much larger puzzle. We will huff and puff at the Iranian door, but we are not likely to blow it down.) You're correct in that assessment, if I say so myself. OTOH, all it takes is some Batman-esque arch villain hoping to go out in a blaze of glory:

Maybe I'm missing something here, but haven't there been US and other "Coalition of the Willing" warships in the Persian Gulf since before the start of the latest Gulf War? And even with the wartime buildup, does the number of US warships in the Persian Gulf really amount to what could rightly be called an armada? Precisely how many warships are enforcing this blockade from the Caspian Sea? Since the Caspian Sea is landlocked, that means that the only way to blockade Iran from that front is to have Russian participation. (Based on what we're seeing in Georgia, it's safe to say that the other countries on the Caspian couldn't make a military move without Russia's blessing.) When did Russia join this naval blockade? Since this military buildup that's being presented as a "blockade" against Iran coincides chronologically with the so-called "surge" in the Iraqnam War, what evidence is there that this buildup is aimed at Iran specifically, and has nothing at all to do with other US wars and/or protecting the transfer of crude oil from the major oil-producing nations in that area? Or is this all a crock? After all, even if there was a total naval blockade of Iran, that leaves no less than eight overland routes for trade in and out of Iran. Since it has become quite obvious that US ("coalition") forces can't secure the borders of Iraq or Afghanistan, it's reasonable to assume that the borders with nations that the US doesn't currently occupy would be even more porous. And then there's the air. Air power is, after all, the #1 military weapon since 1942 or so. Is this "armada" shooting down every civilian airliner that terminates (in or out) in Iran? Enquiring minds want to know...
