but that's another thread...

31DoO is my fave stretch on TCM. Every movie is really good, and it's cool to find out what each one was nominated for, so you can pay special attention: to the music, or a supporting actor, or set design or whatever.

Finally saw "Dog Day Afternoon" (as an adult). What a movie. Pacino was the Awesome at SUCH a young age.

Poor Sal.

I sometimes like watching movies in an anachronistic way. I mean would kids even know what the "Attica" chanting was about nowadays?

It's kind of scary that  so many people are  brainwashed from actual history. So many people with voting ability will soon do so depending on what was on Twitter that day. It's like American Idol gone really, really wrong.

And yeah, poor Sal. He never stopped getting effed.

Comcast is constantly working to provide our customers with the best programming at the best value. As part of this process we must occasionally move programming between our programming tiers. Between now and the end of the year, changes will be made to selected channels to help maintain the balance between cost and value.

That's a good point — my cable company bumped TCM way up the dial to the 160s after it was channel 52 for a long time.

Yeah, the cable companies — and their bretheren like AT&T Uverse — are a shady bunch, so I wouldn't be surprised if they played a trick like that. I would really miss TCM, though, because I refuse to fork out extra bucks for the "premium" movie channels, and I have a personal boycott against stations that show commercially interrupted movies (i.e. IFC), so TCM is one of my very few options for watching decent movies on cable TV.

This is my favorite month of programming on TCM. The station is showing Oscar-nominated films from virtually every awards category. Yesterday morning before I had to go to work, I tuned into Captains Courageous based on the Rudyard Kipling story. It was quite enjoyable, and it was a trip to see a young Spencer Tracy (who won best actor) and an even younger Mickey Rooney (what was he, about 15 when it was filmed?). Fredrick Bartholomew was also excellent as the rich brat who becomes Tracy's pal over the course of a few months on the fishing boat.

I'll be checking the TCM listings regularly this month and will no doubt have to make room on my DVR to record some of these movies. Has anybody else "discovered" a movie they had yet to see before this month's programming?
