Um...I used to know... (Sorry, couldn't resist the opening.) Seriously, though, one thing I've noticed is that the less sleep I get, the less I seem to recall effectively - I'm not sure if it's a matter of getting older or something else, but a good night's sleep makes a lot more difference to me now than it did ten or twenty years ago. That's kind of basic info, obviously. I know a lot of folks who take things like Gingko or Gotu Kola, and claim it helps their memory and sharpness. It seemed to for me but I haven't taken supplements like that in a while. There are probably others here who know more about herbal remedy matters like that. To be honest, writing things down (lists, etc) really helps me.

couple of thoughts
are you using a system to organize, process and act on the info/data?
if you see someone effectively dealing with a similar position, use that person as a role model/mentor
i use some of this system and it had helped me dramatically
there is also the possibility that there may be some nutritional/supplemental/lifestyle things that could help

Write down a simple phrase, picture, just a simple mnemonic device of some sort that will trigger the bigger thought you are trying to recall.
It's like a transistors voltage thing or your penis and your cranium-that little part controls the big part.
edit————— and figure out where you will keep said key to highway. Right pants pocket is good if you can't wear pocket T-s at work, or aren't a redneck like me, don't keep anything else in the spot you decide on.

Beware the woo-woo merchants. Especially the homeopathic ones.
On the other hand, I'm sure that there are techniques for aiding memory retention - I seem to find that the act of writing something down helps to lodge information in the old bonce.
With the added bonus of having it written down on a piece of paper for when I do forget. Structure it correctly and you also have an instant manual for your job - after all, surely nobody is expected to memorise everything.
The problem then is remembering where I wrote it down
