Obama did not have to challenge the ruling.  He has a choice.  Just like there was a choice not to persue the Black Panthers in Philadelphia over voter intimidation.

I like how politicians are all "States' Rights" until the states don't do what the Feds want and then it's blackmail. And aren't most of the GOP wanting to cut off all Federal money anyway?

True that.  Newt did go on to add in that interview, he would reward states like Arizona, S Carolina and Georgia which stepped up to the plate to take on the illegal problem.

I remember back when we had the Arab oil embargo in 74 and the speed limits were manditorily dropped to 55 or risk losing federal funding.  I got pulled over in Arizona by a statie for something stupid in the middle of the desert on 66.  Anyway we had a chat about stuff after getting past my infraction.  I commented on how cool it was that Az did not drop their speed limit and thumbed their nose at DC.  The trooper said that they did things differently in Az and he was proud of that.  They were not going to be bullied into nonsense.  Same reason they do not recognize Daylight Savings time.  We musta talked for about half an hour.

I was driving my 73 VW Bus with the marker lights on in the middle of the day.  He said there was a law about that or something, I forget that specific part.  But I didn't get a ticket or have the bus ripped apart looking for contraband.  I gained a lot of respect for Arizona that day and a deeper understanding of the way they look at things.  Too bad I don't care much for the desert, otherwise I could live there.

I get your point but on a serious note I really get irritated by your broad generalizations about different groups of people, in this case Republicans.  It seems to me it goes against much of what you say your beliefs are.

I would think you would be the last person to lump people together just due to one aspect of their lives.  Very prejudicial IMO.

It's about the Republican platform. Their beliefs are 180 deg opposite of mine. Of course there are going to be some sane headed people who buck their party's platform, but in general, there is nothing about the Republicans that make me want to support them. And it's hardly one aspect of their lives.

I've been thinking a lot about how to answer this.

I guess mostly it will depend who is left when one's turn to vote comes around.

If I was in NH, where you go first, I would vote for RP or Newt.   They are the ones whose support would force the most change in the debate to the real problems.   A good showing for RP would force the MSM to give RP more time in the debates.   They are purposely killing this guy by denying him questions and face time.   The last debate on CNN only got him 80 seconds total.   Bull puckey.

And on Newt, he said in an interview a couple of days ago that he would finish the fence from Brownsville to San Diego and cut off all federal money going to Sanctuary Cities such as San Francisco until they comply with federal laws.   I years ago stated that my first concern is dealing with our national sovereignty and illegal immigration.   If we do not enforce our border and immigration laws, then nothing else matters.   What good do our laws and rules mean if we don't protect our border ?   That is where it begins and ends for me.

My answer will prolly change by the time it gets around to Ohio and we see who is still standing.

I concur. A civilized society cannot exist if it allows a criminal population to exist that has no intention of being positive participants or even obeying the law of the society.
