Redistricting is done every ten years after the census, and it's generally done by the state legislatures, not Congress. And neither party has been shy about gerrymandering: the term was invented to describe the actions of the Democratic-Republican party (the forerunner of the modern Democratic Party) in Massachusetts.
In Texas they (GOP) decided to redistrict whenever they feel like it. Even if Dems make inroads in the state (hey, it could happen), the districts will remain solidly GOP. For example, the City of Austin is diced up by at least five districts, in an attempt to unseat Lloyd Doggett. The GOP in Texas has been trying to get rid of him for many years, with no success.
it is what it is, my friend. that document has been dead and trampled on since long before either of us were born. they still pay it lip service for appearances.
Well, right now it's the Republicans that have a stranglehold on Congress.

You are mistaken; we do. It may be dysfunctional, but we are still a nation of laws, not a nation of anarchy.

history has shown that that will never ever happen
The paradox of human behavior: towards the end of the show, they noted that after the fire, the same policemen who (along with prostitutes who had also been hired by the owners) had beaten these factory workers for demonstrating for higher wages, shorter hours, safer working conditions, and the right to organize, leaned out of windows on each floor of the building to make sure the bodies didn't bang against the side of the building as they were lowered by block and tackle to the ground below.
The biggest difference between Obama and W Cheney is that Obama is not interested in World Domination. Cheney appointed himself VP, hand picked Bush's entire cabinet, and whether or not they created 9/11, used the event for their own gain.
Well, then, we can talk about the Cheney "presidency", if you like. The Faustian bargain that we entered into after 9/11, giving up some freedom in exchange for the promise of security, was initiated during his "presidency", and has been continued during Obama's, to my great frustration and disappointment.
That is an accurate statement. I have never understood why Cheney would ever criticize Obama, Obama is acting like the child Cheney never had, seems rather hypocritical. Maybe that is the problem though, Cheney is jealous because Obama is outperforming him in his neocon agenda.

This is 2013, I barely remember Bush. It would behoove us all to realize Bush barely made any decisions when he was President, he sure as heck ain't making any now.
