Two large turkey vultures who just landed in trees in my back yard. They took off after a few minutes and were gliding high in the sky. I guess there's a deer carcass or something nearby, but there was something a little foreboding about it if I let my imagination drift that way.
Reminds me of how they used to circle overhead when I floated in our pool in New Joy Sea. I'd wave and tell them I'm not dead yet.
Au contraire mon fraire. If two vultures of any species land in your backyard, be happy. You're not a carcass are ya?

A hawk - I think it was a broad-winged hawk, though the red-shouldered hawks are more common near cities here - eating a rat or large mouse. It was on the ground near the exit door of my building and I startled it when I walked out; it startled me as well - pretty large bird, over a foot tall - large wingspan. It flew up to a short roof with its kill and sat there for a while but wasn't eating the prey. Eventually he flew off with his rodent.
Found on some randomly-linked message board: A lady came up to me on the street, pointed at my suede jacket and said, "Don't you know a cow was murdered for that jacket?" I said "I didn't know there were any witnesses. Now I'll have to kill you too".
