Probably "Lawrence of Arabia"
Adore the film but it does go on a bit & could probably be trimmed by about 20-30 mins, plus viewing at home on the TV just doesn't do it justice!!

I read the book after the movie. It was even more emotioninally moving for me. I cried all the way thru it...knowing how it would end and all. Of course I was fairly young when I read it. I think it had a lasting impact on my world view.

I don't understand the meaning of this thread. With the miracle of modern extravagance I can watch about anything I have a mind to.
P.S. Although I have been having a time finding season five of "The Waltons."

I think I could probably watch it again and get a laugh but nothing like how great it was the first time thru...

Yes, The Deer Hunter is one of these films for me as well. Its chock full of local Cleveland scenery, a lot which has been demolished, including the house on the side of the hill overlooking the steel mill in the beginning. I used to work a couple of blocks from that house and that scene is forever etched in my mind. Sokolov's University Inn where a lot of the interiors were shot is a wonderful ethnic cafeteria style restuarant still open for business. Yet with all the local history and references, it is very much an ordeal to get through another time.

Pulp Fiction is the best example of that. First time I laughed and gasped and was caught up in every twist. Second time it was just gratuitous nonsense.
