It's the "I really liked that band when I was the only one who listened to them, but now that other people like them I don't" sydrome.

ScottFromWyoming wrote:Arcade Fire is on Merge records fer chrissakes. The Grammy's usually nominate 4 hacks and one respectable act. They're the token nod to quality that just happened to win somehow. I was impressed that they even nominated any band from a local label. The very nice folks at Merge have been working in earnest for a while now; I'm glad they receive some measure of recognition. I think Arcade Fire is pretty good, but there are artists on that label who I prefer.

Proclivities wrote: Awards ceremonies in general, and the Grammys specifically are pretty hollow, self-congratulatory, ostentatious displays to me: "Ooh, look, I've spent more money on this garish dress than you make in ten years." How many Grammys did that insipid hack Christopher Cross win in just 1981 alone? Some artists I really admire have won Grammys, but essentially, it's meaningless to me. Just my 2¢
Agreed. Self praise is no praise at all. Even the ones open to public voting (over here, anyway) are rigged, in that you are always presented with a selected shortlist and there's no 'None Of The Above' box.
