Anyone live in Portland and want to see the Dandies?

Dear Friends,

Courtney, Zia and Pete have partnered up with original Dandy's drummer Eric Hedford to play this Thursday here in Portland as part of the BEST EVER show series sponsored by Google Hotpot. Yes, like a very very very rare bird, the original Dandy Warhols line up. Come join us for FREE at The University Chapel, 3210 SE Taylor. Doors are at 6pm, first band at 7pm, Dandy's at 9pm. Y La Bamba and Tyhpoon open the show.

While this is free, you still need to pick up tickets in advance. You can score tickets today at 5pm at Pix Patisserie at 3901 N Williams. The general public has been told 6pm at Pix, but we arranged an hour prior to be sure local Dandys fans get the first jump on tickets. Tickets are limited due to the capacity of the room so get to PIX sooner rather than later to score.

For those of you not in Portland, we'll do our best to make our way and see ya soon enough. If you're in Australia, we'll be down in May. Tickets still available HERE.

Questions, concerns, praise, condemnation?

Lee@dandywarhols.com

Many Thanks

The Dandy Warhols

This is just snobbery. While most groups honored at the Grammys are just corporate shills, every once in awhile a really good band wins. Don't write them off just because they won the Grammy. If you enjoy them, so what?

It's the "I really liked that band when I was the only one who listened to them, but now that other people like them I don't" sydrome.

All the Grammys do for me is give me validation for not watching them and a heads up to music I should not bother to listen to. If a group is so mainstream to play at or win Grammys these days, they are pretty much dead to me.

Arcade Fire is on Merge records fer chrissakes. The Grammy's usually nominate 4 hacks and one respectable act. They're the token nod to quality that just happened to win somehow.

I was impressed that they even nominated any band from a local label.  The very nice folks at Merge have been working in earnest for a while now; I'm glad they receive some measure of recognition.  I think Arcade Fire is pretty good, but there are artists on that label who I prefer.

Awards ceremonies in general, and the Grammys specifically are pretty hollow, self-congratulatory, ostentatious displays to me: "Ooh, look, I've spent more money on this garish dress than you make in ten years."  How many Grammys did that insipid hack Christopher Cross win in just 1981 alone?  Some artists I really admire have won Grammys, but essentially, it's meaningless to me.
Just my 2¢

Agreed. Self praise is no praise at all. Even the ones open to public voting (over here, anyway) are rigged, in that you are always presented with a selected shortlist and there's no 'None Of The Above' box.
